Here's a list of artists doing music that sound like other artist's work with mixed results:

1. "CUP OF TEA" by Shack WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: XTC and REM--The vocalist sounds like Colin Moulding from XTC but the backing tracks sound almost exactly like REM: Cup of Tea by Shack

2. "SHE'S SUCH A BEAUTY" by Emitt Rhodes WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: THE BEATLES--From Emitt Rhodes' first solo album. I mentioned this guy last week. He played all the instruments, sang all the vocals and sounds like all of the Beatles. A pretty impressive feat for the technology available in the early 70's: She's such a beauty by Emitt Rhodes

3. "STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU" by Stealer's Wheel WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: THE BEATLES AND BOB DYLAN--Most everyone has heard this song. It was used in Quentin Tarantino's film "Reservoir Dogs" and was a top 10 single in the early 70's for Gerry Rafferty's old band before he took a trip to Baker Street. Close your eyes to the silly video and listen. It sounds just like Bob Dylan singing lead for the Beatles, or maybe Emitt Rhodes: Stuck in the middle with you by Stealers Wheel

4. "SONG FOR BOB DYLAN" by David Bowie WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: BOB DYLAN--Speaking of Dylan, here's that pop chameleon David Bowie doing his best Bob. It's more of a homage than a straight copy: Song for Bob Dylan by David Bowie

5. "WHIZZ KID" by David Werner WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: DAVID BOWIE--About 2 years after Bowie aped Mr. Dylan, David Werner did the same for the Thin White Duke. This song, and the entire album it came from, sounds like outtakes from Ziggy Stardust. Werner's sideman, guitarist/arranger Mark Doyle also did a helluva job aping Mick Ronson: Whizz Kid by David Werner

6. "HARD TIMES IN THE LAND OF PLENTY" by Omar and the Howlers WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: AC/DC and ZZ TOP--Picture this: It's 1982 in the Mississippi Delta. A tour bus carrying AC/DC is headed north to Memphis. At the same time, another tour bus carrying ZZ Top is on the same highway headed south for a gig in New Orleans. The buses hit head on. This is what that crash would sound like: Hard Times in the Land of Plenty by Omar and the Howlers

7. "GOOD VIBRATIONS" by Todd Rundgren WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: THE BEACH BOYS--Todd Rundgren is sometimes too talented and too clever for his own good. Here, he does a note-for-note copy of the Beach Boy's classic "Good Vibrations." This comes from a late 70's album that also had copies of Beatle's, Dylan and Hendrix copies. I'm not sure I get the point: Good Vibrations by Todd Rundgren

8. "ON THE DARK SIDE" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN-- How nice is Bruce Springsteen? He's so nice that he didn't sue this bunch for ripping off his sound. They even have a Clarence Clemons knock-off in the band playing a sax solo. On the dark side by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band

9. "LADY OF THE LAKE" by Starcastle WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: YES-- In the late 70s, Starcastle made a whole career out of sounding as close to early seventies Yes as anyone short of a tribute band could: Lady of the Lake by Starcastle

10. "STILL OF THE NIGHT" by Whitesnake WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: LED ZEPPELIN--Led Zeppelin probably influenced almost as many artists as the Beatles. From Heart, to Rush, to Wolfmother you can hear their influence. Whitesnake went way beyond influence, especially on this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Ha118VFqI

EXTRA CREDIT: 11. " A HORSE WITH NO NAME" by America WHO IT SOUNDS LIKE: CROSBY, STILLS, NASH AND YOUNG-- America's first big hit, "A Horse with No Name" sounded so much like CSN&Y that critics called it "A Horse with No Neil." Ironically, it was “A Horse with No Name” that replaced Young's “Heart of Gold” at the #1 spot on the U.S. pop chart in 1972. A Horse with no Name by America
