Losing a family member always creates a hole in the family, which cannot be replaced. I wish you the best. My experience dealing with hospice has not been so compassionate and professional. I agree that when the patient was trying to make the decision to go the hospice route, they were like a cheering team. They encouraged the decision by providing supportive information on what hospice was and the future treatment if they went that direction. Once the decision was make, it was like they were already dead. The physician never saw them again, just got reports from the nurses. Nursing care was greatly reduced. There were no longer updates from anyone on the progress of their medical condition or treatment (pain relievers, what we could expect over the next week, or day). It is good to hear your family member received better care and the family was kept informed.
