As I sat in on the meeting of the Victoria Homeless Coalition Thursday I was struck by how so many different agencies and others interested in the homeless problem were coming together. Yes, the homeless count is important because the Department of Housing and Urban Development uses the numbers to help determine future funding for some grants, etc. to help battle homelessness, but it was obvious by the discussions that while the money is important, it's the people in need who were the main concern. Representatives from several groups -- I won't try to mention them all for fear of leaving someone out -- talked with compassion and concern for those people with no permanent place to live, some living on the street. It shows the power of collaboration, of coming together for a common cause. A tip of the hat to those folks and their organizations.
