Since 1990 Affectionate Arms Adult Day Care has been assisting the elderly and disabled and, perhaps equally as important, giving their caregivers a break to be able to work every day. Mary Garcia, who runs the facility, told me that one woman who wheels her disabled son -- in his 40s -- in every day said recently "Please don't ever close." It's that kind of need that Affectionate Arms meets every day. Sunday is the day you can help most as Affectionate Arms holds its annual fundraiser at the Catholic War Veterans Hall on South Main Street. For a $6 donation, they will serve up a plate of carne guisada, rice and beans from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be a silent auction and a live auction at 11:30 a.m. The facility also needs cash donations to help repair the roof, replace the carpet and buy a new washing machine. Help those that help others and have a good Sunday meal, too.
