So often we think of the Red Cross responding to disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes or house fires with assistance for families who have lost clothes, furniture or more.

But winter weather like the extreme cold of the last few days also has the Red Cross at the forefront of assistance.

For example, Red Cross staff and volunteers worked with several other local organizations and the First United Methodist Church to establish a temporary shelter for the homeless who had nowhere to go to get out of the bitter cold. In addition to cots, the Red Cross provided coats and hygiene items for those that needed them.

The Crossroads community has always supported the local chapter of the Red Cross and now more than ever needs to continue to do so. Cash donations to replenish the disaster relief fund are needed. One house fire, and we sometimes have a rash of them at one time, can quickly deplete those funds.

So dig deep Crossroads. Help the agency that is always there to help others. Donate to the Crossroads Chapter of the American Red Cross.
