Law abiding Catholic
Typically on Friday’s, Catholics abstain from meat. However, there are special days of the liturgical year called solemnities that trump penitential Fridays. This is one such day as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Annunciation! “The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary...” are first words prayed at high noon as part of each “Angelus.” Canon Law states “Can. 1251 Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.” I am looking forward to something delicious in the carne genre tonight as our family celebrates the conception of a Child over 2000 years ago.
When is Christmas?
Exactly 9 months away. How do I know? See the above post. Part of my meditation for the next nine months will be considering the Christ Child in utero.

ABC Golf Tournament
Today I will complete my first round of golf...ever. I typically don’t shy away from embarrassing moments, so why start now? Don’t wish me luck; I doubt all the luck in the world would be helpful with my lack of skills. Although you can pray for a miracle, this is more plausible.
Today is the opening ceremony of Victoria Little League. I haven’t seen so much excitement for baseball in years; I am glad to see my son enjoy the game and have fun with friends.
Plans for weekend
Lots of exciting things going on. I am looking forward to each of them.
Yes fun stuff. I am still reading a good economics book. It has taken me much longer to plow through this one. It is much more in depth and so takes me much longer to read as I must re-read parts to understand it.
I am a couple posts away from my 200th on the Advocate. I think I will offer something cool. So because my faithful Friday readership is the cream of the crop, I am giving you a heads up for something special on the 200th. I haven’t figured out what yet, but it will be something.
