Going off this article from the Victoria Advocate regarding Gen Y, I have compiled a list of events before their birth and some that shaped them.

Pre-millennials:

1981: Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II’s assassination attempt; cases of AIDS are becoming recognized

1980: Pac-Man is released

1979: China’s one child policy is introduced

Pre-memory of Millennials:

1982: Thriller is released

1983: hello McNugget

1984: Crack starts to be shipped across the US

1985: Back to the Future is released; Nintendo is released

1986: Chernobyl

Concurrent Events (some that shaped the minds):

Berlin Wall crashes; probably only remember Bush I and II, Clinton, Obama; “Ending of USSR, Columbine, Persian Gulf War, The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Bill Clinton scandal, Chicago Bulls reign, cloning, OJ Simpson trial, Oklahoma City bombing, Y2K, 9/11, Iraq War, Hurricane Katrina, SARS, H1N1, Indian Ocean Tsunami, earthquake in Haiti.”

Here is the link of the Pew Research mentioned in the article.

What are some events that really shaped you prior to the Millennials? What are some that happened that I didn't list but are still very important?
