Friday morning, as I made my usual trek to the coffee pot, my nine year old popped up and excitedly exclaimed, “I fixed your computer! It runs faster now.”

“Oh really? What did you do?”

He proudly answered, “I deleted some programs.”

Deleted some programs?

Horrified, I looked at my laptop and saw the YouTube site displayed in the browser. I was relieved that my nine year old hadn’t deleted Firefox, the operating system, or whatever makes the computer recognize and communicate with the wi-fi signal.

I looked more closely at the page and saw that he had been looking at “how to” videos on deleting Facebook games and applications.

My computer had been running slowly. I had complained about it.

My nine year old is just a few days older than Christina Taylor Greene, the youngest victim of the Tucson massacre.

“The human mind is like a fertile ground where seeds are continually being planted. The seeds are opinions, ideas, and concepts. You plant a seed, a thought, and it grows. The word is like a seed, and the human mind is so fertile! The only problem is that too often it is fertile for the seeds of fear…”
