The Victoria school board will hold a special meeting on Dec. 9 to finalize the 2010-11 school dress code.
Since it's a hot topic, I'm doing a pro/con story on it what you guys think should be done: -Pro: Current dress code is fine, but should be enforced -Con: Current dress code is too loose and should be stricter.
I'd like to know your thoughts. Please give me a call at 361-580-6535, or e-mail me your number and I will gladly give you a call at your convenience. My e-mail is jcavazos@vicad.com.

They are not talking about college students who pay out HUGE chunks of money for their education and are not required to continue that education.
April 16, 2010 at 6:52 a.m.I understand why conformity is important to some people. However, I don't think it matters what the kids look like, its about learning, not appearance. Colleges don't really have dress codes, so it doesn't matter anyway.
April 15, 2010 at 5:29 p.m.I haven't seen anything about uniforms, just a more standardized dress code. But whatever they go with, administration (campus and central) as well as parents must back the teachers in enforcing it. That is the problem now, teachers don't want to deal with it because the principals don't want to deal with it.
December 2, 2009 at 6:19 a.m.The way things are going, there may be only 1 store left in Victoria.
I disagree with allowing uncovered tattoos. Children under the age of 18 cannot legally obtain a tattoo, so therefore they should not be deemed appropriate by the school board.
I agree with you 1000% on the classes. I went to school before they integrated the classrooms & I believe that if you break down the classes by ability, all the kids in all the classes learn more. Thiis style of educating was the reason I refused to put my child in public school in elementary & middle school.
December 1, 2009 at 10:39 p.m.dress codes are needed to stop the gang colors. tatoos and hair thats a different story because a lot of kids already have tatoos nowdays so are you gonna kick them out because of them. hair should be neat and well kept. that doesn't mean a length limit as long as its neat then it should be ok. no weird colors or weird hair doos should be allowed. ear rings should be allowed but not all the body stuff. cloths should cover the body tastefully no cleavage allowed that means teachers too. I know that every child needs a good education but there should be a zero tolerance policy on gang behavior. 1 strike and your out. They don't want to learn anyway so get them out of the classes and into mitchell school or jail. that way the ones who want to learn can. same with drugs and alcohol 1 strike and your gone. all this politically correct nonsense about teaching all students at the same level is also bull crap. they need to be segregated into classes that reflect their abilities. that way college bound students get a real education instead of them being put in lower standard classes. its just a fact of life that not all kids have the same abilities to learn advanced classes so why should the standards be lowered just so they can pass. teach them at there level and the college bound kids at a higher standard. There is nothing wrong with that as long as everyone gets at least a minimum level of education. but the more advanced students should not be held back by not getting college level instruction because we can't put them in more advanced classes. not everyone will be doctors or lawyers, some will be mechanics and carpenters and some will be laborers and service job holders. All students should be taught to the extent of their abilities regardless of what those are with out having the more able being ignored because teachers have to lower the level to the least able students so they can pass the course. that hurts everyone. My only problem with the dress code is where are the uniforms going to be sold? Will they be all sold at one store or what. there will have to be a list of brands and styles that would be approved and at what stores those brands are sold at. This could be abused by visd officials if they exclude stores in favor of other stores because of the dress code. Not all families can afford high priced cloths so that will have to be considered as well.
December 1, 2009 at 8:36 p.m.the students didnt care. Just one of them. I think I heard like 400+ student signatures.
November 29, 2009 at 6:26 p.m.Just curious...which of the new campuses wanted to change colors?
November 29, 2009 at 5:18 p.m.male ear rings will be allowable if ok'd. I think you gonna open a can of worms, VISD.
If its the same assistant super. and her committee handling the input then its gonna be a mess.
The current hs kids petitioned to change 1 campus' color and it was thrown in the trash. So input is not wanted.
