Victoria has two new high schools opening up this fall, which are pretty cool facilities. I got a tour of Victoria West recently.

But in thinking about East and West has caused me to wonder what VHS/Stroman HS think about them. Maybe you have lots of good memories of being a VHS Stingaree or SHS Raider. Now things are different, and we're going to have the Warriors and Titans.

I'm working on a story on all this. For you VHS or SHS alumni, what are your thoughts on these new schools? Let's talk.

Please give me a call at 361-580-6535, or e-mail me at jcavazos@vicad.com. Thanks, guys.

  • I am happy that Victoria went back to two schools, however, it is so sad that there are no teams for alumni to come back to support. Alumni now from three schools have nothing to come back to. We are right back to where we started when it was SHS and VHS, so why couldn't they just fix the problem the first time, instead of consolidating? I am very proud to have attended Stroman, however, as my children grew up, they were always told they would go to VHS due to where we live. Then consolidation happened....and so did private school.

  • My daughter graduated from VHS and my granddaughter graduated from MHS. They have both lost their School History. It's as though they had no school. When the EXTREMELY costly taxpayer money was wasted on the Consolidation Issue we STUPID and IGNORANT taxpayers had no input ito the way their money was invested. What an enormous waste of money! Now they have done... at last....what we S&I taxpayers wanted to begin with.

  • I graduated from VHS and my husband from SHS. Both my kids graduated from Memorial. What a debacle consolidation was! I am glad VISD went back to the two High School idea for no other reason other than the one High School was just too big. It seemed there was no real sense of community within a High School that size. I don't know how to explain it. Just too many bodies. My only concern is how long these two schools will be able to serve our population. Hopefully both campuses start out on a equal footing and VISD is able to maintain that equality.

  • I wish the best for all the kids that will be attending these new schools. But, for me, it is sad that all the traditions, homecomings, etc. are gone forever. Another sad, sad story!

  • I graduated from VHS (81)and find appalling what has happened. The simple fact is that the experiment by the school board to combine the two schools failed and all in the name of sports. The citizens of Victoria deserve better.

  • I graduated from SHS and my husband from VHS, neither one of us better than the other, and we both loved our schools. Looking forward, the two new high schools I see neither one better than the other, and hopefully the students will love their schools and have the best of times, it is their moment.
