Have you heard about Codex, or have no idea what it is or why you should even care?

Codex Alimentarius is creating dozens of international trade standards. One of the most controversial documents is entitled Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements

Important Events of 2006: · June 9 -- U.S. House/Senate voted to NOT withdraw U.S. from WTO · June 30 -- CAFTA passed by U.S. Senate · July 4 -- Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements finalized at Codex Alimentarius Commission session in Rome · July 12 -- European Court verdict announced - upholds EU Food Supplements Directive · July 28 -- CAFTA passed by U.S. House of Representatives · August 2 -- CAFTA signed by President Bush · October 14 -- U.S. Delegation posts initial draft positions for CCNFSDU agenda items · November 21-25 -- 27th Session of the Codex Committee for Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) in Bonn, Germany · TBD -- FAO/WHO Nutrient Risk Assessment Expert Panel Report expected this Fall

This legislation supports the pharmaceutical industry and commerce and not our health. It will make all food suppliers in the U.S. conform to "codex compliance". Right now, it is an option to conform to codex. If this bill passes, in 2009, it will be a federal mandate that all food suppliers conform. What is Codex? These are new food regulations brought to you by an organization named Codex Alimentarius. They are NOT a health organization. The regulations they outline in no way support our health, but aim at supporting business and commerce and the use of dangerous chemicals that assist in producing more profit and higher yield. They plan on bringing back 9 of the 12 banned pesticides, while making nutrient rich food almost illegal. They love ingredients such as aspartame, saccharin, MSG, High Fructose, and anything manufactured by Monsanto (the makers of bovine growth hormone)

Codex answers directly to the World Health Organization, and the World Trade Organization. The lovely people on the board of WHO and WTO are also board members of companies like Bayer, Monsanto, Pfizer, Haliburton, and many other chemical producers with interests inimical to our health. The laws outlined in codex were conceived by a man named Herman Schmitz who was the head of IG Farben during WWII. This was the company responsible for the production of Zyklon B - the poison gas that NAZI's used, and many other chemicals introduced into the water systems of germany and occupied countries of that time.

Now we have food regulations first conceived by this monster and they are about to make waves in our food industry. A lot of producers are already "codex compliant", but at least we have a choice to buy better if we want. Not for long. The labels will stay the same, but it wont really be "organic". We can buy a fancy label is what that amounts to. How is this possible? Because Codex simply changes the definition of "organic" and "all natural" in its guidelines.

True organic food will no longer be an option for us after 2009 if we don't write to our congress to oppose this hideous bill. Many of them have never heard of Codex Alimentarius. I certainly never heard a word about it until I saw an article titled "Codex and Nutricide : Criminalizing Natural Health, Vitamins and Herbs"

Will the Guidelines become a valuable data source for nutritional supplement information or a set of international restrictions with enough clout to empty the shelves of health food stores? Now that the Guidelines document has been finalized by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (July 4, 2005) we will watch for further developments.
