The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington blocked Texas’ congressional redistricting maps, saying maps don’t comply with the Voting Rights Act.

The November elections will proceed as planned, using the interim maps drawn by the federal court in San Antonio, but this legal battle could affect the next elections.

Attorney General Greg Abbott issued a statement saying he will continue defending the maps drawn by the Texas legislature and will immediately take steps to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.
