My husband and I have similar jobs right now: we both do a ridiculous amount of paperwork, wonder if we will ever get paid correctly or at all, and we both shoot. Well, he shoots a gun and I shoot video. I am a "multimedia intern" doing videography and he just joined the US Army. We got married the day he graduated from basic/AIT in Fort Benning, Georgia and now he is at his duty station in New York. I always swore up and down that I would never date a man in the military, but at the time he joined we had already been dating for about ten months and I already was completely in love with him and planning my life with him. I knew I could not be happy without him- so what choice did I have? It will be hard and there will be many separations, but I love him so much that I will take however much of him I can get. I must say that if he hadn't joined, we may not be where we are in our relationship now. I think distance can definitely make or break a couple but for us it has strengthened our bond. Not being able to be near each other all the time has really forced us to improve our communication skills and any time you are away from your partner you realize how lucky you are to have them and it makes you more appreciative of them when they are around. The love letters I got, a surprise phone call I had to sneak out in the middle of class to take, and that first kiss after waiting through two and a half months of "boot camp" and AIT separation... all those things were just a few of the sweet treasures that make it all worthwhile. On the flip side though, as good ol' 'Pamela Moran' on Army Wives said, "The army is my husband's mistress and sometimes that bitch gets all the attention!" When you marry into the military, the military comes first.
