I'm 37 years old. I'm in pretty good health. I've been on a pretty rigorous exercise regimen since January, I drink an occasional beer, don't smoke, eat healthy, (thanks to my wife,) and think I do pretty good all in all. I don't, however, have a doctor nor have I had a check up/physical in over 15 years. I definitely need a look under the hood. The folks at Movember have a handy chart that tells you what you should have done based on your age:

Here's the Movember checklist for someone of my age:

BLOOD PRESSURE: Every 2 years or annually if high/low

FASTING CHOLESTEROL: Every 5 years or more frequently with an abnormal test result

MENTAL HEALTH: Annual check up

EYE HEALTH: Every 2 years or as doctor recommends

IMMUNIZATIONS: Tetanus-diphtheria booster every 10 years and annual flu vaccine

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES: Regular checks, if appropriate

SKIN CANCER: Look for marks or changes on your skin and have a doctor do an annual skin check.

TESTICULAR CANCER: Monthly self-exam, especially if there is a family history

So from this I can rough out a To Do List:

Blood Pressure: I know mine's pretty good. I don't know just how good or what the range is for my age. I now my grandmother takes meds for hers, not sure if my dad does. Need to find out.

Cholesterol: 200 is the cutoff dot total cholesterol. I've always been slightly over that, but I haven't checked it since last year sometime, before I started exercising. HDL has been too high and LDL too low. Heart disease is a pretty big issue on both sides of my family and I know my dad takes cholesterol meds. Need to do this for sure.

Mental Health: We're all a little crazy... aren't we?

Eye Health: I had Lasik done about 15 years ago, but my eyes have changed a little since then. I had to get a pair of glasses a couple of years ago to clear things up a little in the car and at the movies. I haven't had the peepers checked since then and need to replace a cracked lens anyway. Plus, there's some glaucoma or cataracts in the family.

Immunizations: Need a tetanus shot.

STDs: No problems there. Happily married for 11 years.

Skin Cancer: I had a mole check about 5 years ago. Megan keeps saying we need no check each other every so often, but we never do. Now's the time!

Testicular cancer: No history in the family. No history of cancer at all, but that's no excuse.

Those are the things I need to do for myself this Movember. It doesn't seem too terrible. I should also add in getting a little more family health history in there. I give myself till the end of the month to complete them all.
