My dearest Glenda has been feeling a bit under the weather for the past couple of days. She went to her doctor and got a script for Rx and OTC medications. I read her the dossier on the Rx and have been opening the OTC for her. Day two saw her feeling worse and me urging her to call her doctor. I’m hoping for the best on this, day three.

A co-worker and I made the rounds to pick up equipment from local customers. Part of our route saw us on loop 463 and north-east of town. When we crossed the Guadalupe River headed towards town, we both had a sneezing fit. After returning to the shop I was hit by a fever, nausea, and some mild stomach discomfort that wasn’t quite a case of cramps. I got the chills and became slightly dizzy and lethargic. On this third day my tonsils are a bit swollen and I still feel a bit feverish. Yesterday my co-worker related his symptoms to me and they matched somewhat.

Getting back to my favorite muse; I hate to see her in pain. My heart sinks down with her whenever she gets sick. I have to maintain a strong façade for her as she can easily get herself into a falling spiral of self pity over such things. She hates being sick. She hates hurting. I hate the illnesses that assail her.

I help her sit up on the couch. I pass her an ice-water cup and straw. I open her Rx and OTCs. I scratch her back. I help her stand. I help her shower. I don’t expect anything in return for my actions. I do these things because I love her with all my heart. As I left this morning for work I asked her to call her doctor and relate everything that has happened since she started the new meds. I also told her that if she did not call, I would.

Whatever hit me has leveled off to a dull background nuisance. I don’t have much mobility compromised. That fever is still hanging around and I fear I will eventually end up at the doctor’s office as well. Wednesday seems to have blown something nefarious into town. All those beautiful wildflowers come with a price tag printed in pollen and other substances. This season is a godsend for the eyes. This season is also a bane for the allergy beleaguered. Then again, I’m not so sure all our symptoms are only allergies.
