Admiral Gibson made a surprise visit today. He was retiring from the service and wanted to leave me with a few bits of information he thought I might need in the future. We sat on the upper deck in the cool sunlight and sipped a tea mixture from Okinawa. I jokingly asked him who shot Kennedy. He laughed heartily and replied that that one was still under wraps. We watched a freighter glide by and head north for Arctic-dock. The gleaming hull reflected brightly thru the carbon plates of Metal Sky. Even after he began small talk I could tell he had a lot to impart to me. By the second cup he began to open up.

I have always been fascinated by the Zad Corporation’s fusion energy generators. They run on hydrogen but would also function to incrementally lesser degrees on any other matter farther on into the periodic table. I even have a basic knowledge of how the reactors are constructed. The Admiral however, dropped a huge bombshell quietly. I’m still collating my thoughts on it as I write this but here goes my description.

Our fusion energy source reactors are not merely fusion devices. We take for granted the energy produced by such small reactors and simply enjoy the clean energy they provide. The human race got the tech from the Sildaze when they passed thru our neck of the galactic woods. The upper echelon of our government made many great trades of tech and the fusion knowledge was one of the most valuable. Early on, it was decided that a great deal of misinformation should enshroud the actual construction and operation of the energy generators so no layperson could accidentally, or otherwise, distribute the tech to other races.

Zad builds each reactor to government specifications with the cover story that the energies involved would do great harm to the local galactic arm if certain safety protocols were not followed during construction. I knew the Sildaze gave us a few additional elements for our periodic table but the truth turns out to be that they gave us ten times what we had already discovered. As it is, each reactor emerges from the Europa facility fully functional and running. The assembly teams are to this day, made up of unknown persons with security clearances that have never ever been mentioned in any government document. One conspiracy theory suggest that several hundred Sildaze remained behind to help the human race but, Sildaze don’t settle down anywhere, ever.

Each Reactor has a multitude of energy output options that can be accessed in several ways. Heat can be drawn off to run hyper turbines, electricity can be drawn off in AC or DC, and the full spectrum of the electromagnetic can be tuned into any output required for communications, worm-hole generation, weapons energizing, or shield projection. The smallest reactors are marble sized and the largest are 4 kilometers in diameter.

The core is a permanent high yield rod magnet made of Hyper-carbon and a heavy metal mixture. Here’s the true secret now; two miniature black holes with opposite mono-polarities race around the magnet and play a game of push and pull. They strip electrons off the magnet and each other. When they swallow those electrons extreme energy is produced in a thin hydrogen cloud which is sandwiched between two sets of clamshell magnets a set distance from the core. The resulting electromagnetic radiation heats the thin gas and then as fusion occurs most of the heat is pulled thru the magnetic fields and into a plasma cloud surrounding the black holes. A torus forms and feeds the inner magnetic field which is contorted infinitely by the black holes. Electron and other particle plasmas build near the poles of the bar magnet and infiltrate the heavy metal mixture replenishing it. The black holes pull more electrons off and the process perpetuates itself. The only way to turn a reactor off is to pull the core rod out. The two black holes evaporate and the shell implodes into another infinitely smaller black hole which evaporates as well. No messy leftovers to deal with just a micron spray of quantum detritus.

Most of the first reactors constructed are still in operation. Even fusion generators from battle junk have been salvaged and returned to use. Beyond the double clamshells are a few layers of insulating materials and particle probe bases. A final outer shell completes the assembly and a byproduct of the magnetic fields happens to be a reduction of weight of 84%. The mass of each reactor is substantially high and the momentum of one in motion actually aids in space folding, or wormhole generation.

The admiral and I went on to a great deal of other small talk but that was the crux of his visit. Now that I know how the fusion generators really work I can only hope the information will be of use to me some day.
