What does Victoria need in a mayor? There are of course the responsibilities attached to the holding of that office but, there is much more to it than just being an organizational figurehead.

You can compare a mayor to a president if you like. If Victoria were a country then the mayor would be the president. All kidding aside though, our mayor must represent each and every citizen. In that same regard, each and every citizen has to have, at the least, a minimum amount of respect for whoever sits in that chair.

The voters will choose and I can only hope it will be a good choice. I know one candidate and hope that one wins. My reasoning’s are that we need a mayor with determination to affect positive changes this community. We need a mayor that’s not just a stiff pedestal-sitter or flagrant power abuser. We need a mayor that can not only delegate authority but keep the reins in one hand and properly whip the horse below as well as the herd all around. A mayor must easily be a person one can enjoy a cup of coffee or a cold beer with, but in the same respect, a person that we can be motivated by to put our hands into the gears of this community and make a difference every day and in every way possible.

A mayor must be someone we can walk beside, be that walk in a dark alley or downtown street. A mayor must have a sense of adventure as well as common sense. Education is a plus but not if it allows a mayor to bog things down in ‘legalese’. A mayor must be able to thwart any ‘legalese’ grandstanding by other officials when and where such posturing threatens to damage this community by giving any and all corruption a ‘toe-in-the-door’.

To be a mayor is to be the unsung hero who toils away beyond the latest hour. No stone can be left unturned. There is nothing under the sun in this community that a mayor should not know. A mayor should be as well prepared to throw lead or bandage a wound.

A scuffed boot or shoe shows that a mayor spends a bit more time up and about working and not planted behind a desk. Rough hands prove a mayor is not afraid of hard work.

Our choices are: Will Armstrong

Chelle Nickerson

Robin Holy

Let’s pick one that will keep this community on the map and keep it alive and well in the heart of Texas!

Let’s be sure and vote ourselves a good leader Victoria. We work too hard not to be deserving of one.
