One guilty pleasure of mine is finding the time to read the newspaper. It seems like that privilege has become harder and harder to indulge in. I keep my Advocate subscription up to date and since my Grandmother started it for my current address many years ago, there have been few lapses if any. There at my fingertips is our community at a glance along with neighboring populations as well as a dash of the world at large.

When I can’t get my read on in the morning, I usually get it done at lunch. If not then, then I do it later in the evening. That indulgence of relaxation has a way of easing away all the stresses of any given day. It doesn’t matter what the news is, all I know is it relaxes me greatly.

When I find myself stuck out of town for days on end I still return home and catch up on missed newspapers. Some articles are about things I’ve heard on the radio or read in other cities papers. The Advocate is an integral part of ‘being home’.

With the advent of the internet I can now enjoy the newspaper online and surf thru stories from the past. Keeping up with particular stories used to mean saving old newspapers or digging deeply thru archives. Now that information can be found literally in your hands, at your fingertips, or a click away.

The world of information has expanded exponentially and shows no signs of slowing down. The world will not wait for tomorrow. It brings tomorrow to us at the speed of light every day. The Victoria Advocate is a privilege just as any other respectable newspaper is. It’s an extension of the institution of news that informs, and inspires.

I am an avid reader of many things and I find muses in everything I read. The Advocate is no exception and at the rate it’s moving forward, it never will be.
