If my blog posts so far have piqued your interest in China and you're just dying to know more, National Geographic has some informative articles and photo galleries you might enjoy.
Don't you just love National Geographic? In a quest for entertainment, my husband and I purchased a set of 5 DVDs with a huge assortment of Nat Geo documentaries. Most of them are "classics" from back in the 70s and 80s. So not only do we learn something about nature, transportation and/or cultures, we also get to check out some kicking bell bottoms and feathered hair styles.
I highly recommend Gilded Age, Gilded Cage by Leslie T. Chang, a story about China's middle class and China's Instant Cities by Peter Hessler, (author of the excellent memoir River Town: Two Years on the Yangtze), about the growth of entire cities devoted to industry and manufacturing. For more, see Geopedia:China.

Thanks, Chris! I do hope that I can demystify China a little. Beyond the politics, Olympics, trade and human rights issue, there are day to day stories that are not so different from our own.
April 20, 2009 at 7:13 p.m.I agree with your endorsement of National Geographic, although I have to say the magazine has nothing on your blogs for a South Texas audience. You bring a unique perspective that really connects with your former neighbors.
