It's a question I've been asking myself since I decided on my blog topic: can crafts be young and cool? That's a separate question from whether I can be cool ... that verdict came back a long time ago and is sadly a "no."

But I was talking to a co-worker several days ago, telling him I wanted to make this a fun blog, something people want to read. He basically responded with a "well, good luck."

It can be fun, though, and hopefully it will.

It's all going to depend on the craft at hand, as well as the specific reader. Your teens will likely be more interested to hear about making earrings, rather than crocheting a blanket (I have done both, thank you very much), but that doesn't make either one "uncool."

So here is my promise to you: I will offer up as wide a variety of do-it-yourselfers as I can, interjecting a few thoughts and suggestions on my end.

This blog is still in its planning stages and I'm still in my "what am I doing?" phase, so it's likely that things will change a little over time. The plan for now, though, is to choose a specific topic each week - scrapbooking, painting, etc. and run with that.

And it's good to know I'm not the only one out there trying to make craft time a bit more hip - check out the YouTube video. If it doesn't convince you that scrapbooking is cool, maybe it will convince you there are bigger dorks out there than me.
