So the second time around worked out well, I think. It was actually a pretty speedy process - I got home from work, fed the dog, etc. and sat down to watch TV for a bit. Apparently I fell asleep for a while, though, because I woke up at about 9 p.m. and realized I still had a pumpkin in serious need of carving.
I know it's ridiculous, but I feel like there has to be one sitting outside my door on Halloween. It's a complex.
Anyway, I sat down with the carving equipment and realized I didn't have any ideas. Still determined not to rely on a paper pattern tacked onto the pumpkin this year, I looked down and drew inspiration from my T-shirt.
I happened to be wearing a shirt with the "Saw 'Em Off" logo - of a longhorn with its horns falling off to the side. (In case you can't tell, I'll be an Aggie until the day I die.)
Anyway, I changed, set the shirt down so I could rely on it during the carving and did the thing free-hand. It's supposed to say "whoop" above it but that didn't come out as well.
Your thoughts about the design are welcomed - hey, so are pictures of any jack-o-lanterns you've carved!
And the fun doesn't have to end once the pumpkin's carved - keep the seeds and roast them. Here are a few recipes.
