The Associated Press reported that a couple of teens in Sandwich, Mass. are really starting to bug people.
Katheryn Maloney and Brady Cullinan have started selling earrings and necklaces made out of lacquered cicada carcases. Cullinan's mom gave them the idea
The duo is making $10 a pop for the insect-laden accessories, although they admitted some people find them a little gross.
What do you think?
I'm all up for being original and cicada shells don't really gross me out - we used to gather them up when I was growing up in Indiana - but I don't think I could go that far.
Plus, I think I might have some trouble getting people to take me seriously if I showed up to do an interview for the paper with insects dangling from my lobes.
But who knows? this could be the next big thing.
Besides the half-zillion friendship bracelets I created during my childhood, I've never made jewelry. I've always wanted to try it, though.
Forget the fur coats, and the leather jackets and even those beaded earrings. We're going buggy.
