As the Advocate's business reporter, I get to cover a pretty wide variety of things - new store openings to sales tax trends and, yes, the mayhem that is day-after-Thanksgiving shopping.

On Friday, though, I'm covering a different crazy shopping day - the start of Texas' tax-free weekend. I'm hoping to hit the stores and see what people are buying, whether they're taking advantage of this year's savings, etc.

The plan is to find a family (preferably with a kiddo or two) who will let me and a photographer follow them through their shopping day - whatever stores that might include - and talk to them about their savings and why they decided to battle the crowds.

Is anyone interested in having a nosy reporter follow them around? Know of someone who might be interested? Either way, I'd appreciate your help in finding someone to be the face to my story! You can either reply here, e-mail me at amiles@vicad.com or give me a call at 361-580-6511.

In the meantime, if you're looking for more information on the sales tax holiday or for a list of what is/isn't tax-free, visit the state comptroller's Web site. (School supplies aren't taxed this year!)

Thanks in advance!
