It's official. I definitely prefer going to parties over throwing them.
I actually came to that conclusion after my parents' joint 50th birthday party in September but that didn't stop me from planning another. I'll be an aunt in mid-February (for the first time - kind of exciting!) and decided to throw my sister a baby shower.
It's a baby boy, by the way - in case anybody was curious. :)
As far as the planning, that's all going OK. I'm working with a family friend and she's coming up with the prize baskets for the games while I've been working on invitations, supplies and other little things.
I've kind of hit a wall when it comes to the cake, though. I thought I had everything planned out - I found a cake that looks like a baby sitting in a bathtub online and thought I'd have a go at that. (The theme is rubber duckies and it just seemed to fit.) But the more I got to looking at the cakes, the less decisive I became. There are just too many cute shower cakes to try.
Any amazing ideas out there? I'll post a few pictures on here to show some of the highlights I've found. (note: I will NOT include the cake I found that includes an icing depiction of a woman giving birth. Eew.) And for the record, I don't think mine will come out as remotely polished as these cakes are.
Anyway, if you guys have any great shower ideas - for games, decorations, etc., feel free to pass them my way. Either way, I'm sure I'll end up enlisting Mom's help for the cake. She's good at that stuff and me? I've never tried.
But there's a first time for everything.

Oh wow! Now there's a story you guys can have forever. Grumpy niece or not, you guys planned that shower right on time! :)
January 15, 2009 at 9:26 a.m.The cakes are so cute!!!!! I definitely like to go to parties now. When I throw a bash, I just rely on caterers. My sis and I used to do the to the nines decoratingĀ and food thing, but we are olderĀ and lazier. Enjoy all of these great times and always, always take lots of pictures.
January 15, 2009 at 8:35 a.m.My niece was expecting and we had her shower. She was so grumpy at the shower, and we really tried to be patient, but we are human. Poor girl had the baby that night about 6 hours after the shower was over. She was in labor at her shower. We were so clueless. Bless her heart. It's a good thing God takes care of little children (the baby) and fools (the aunts.)
