It's that time of year again, people. When school kids groan, retailers gear up and parents do that secret happy dance that, soon, the kids will be out of the house.
Yep, back to school is here. And that means it's time to stock up on the necessary supplies. Luckily for those across the Lone Star State, a tax reprieve is on its way to make the prep that much easier.
Texas's tax-free weekend spans Friday through Sunday, giving shoppers statewide a chance to grab up school supplies, clothing and footwear (priced at less than $100) without shelling out that 8 percent sales tax.
For full nuts and bolts information on the weekend - and what items qualify - check out this page on the state comptroller's website. Nationwide, we're expected to spend a total $30.3 billion on back-to-school spending on kids in kindergarten through 12th grade, according to a National Retail Federation news release.
So, seriously. Take advantage of these savings.
And if you do ... let me know.
I'll be out and about Friday talking with shoppers about what they're looking for, why they chose to shop tax-free and so on. And I'd love to talk to you. I'm looking to track down people beforehand to find out when they'll be shopping, where they'll be, take a look at their shopping lists and so on.
If you'd like to help out, you can respond here, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 361-580-6511.
Thanks so much, and happy shopping!
