Mike, I read Obamas tax plan & I still question what tax break couples who make over $90,000 are going to get, I just don't see it. Since you stated in one of your responses here that you understand his tax plan & who & how it affects people, please explain to me. Thanks.
My point, old friend, is that your attacks on them lowers you as well. You don't get a free pass. Please note that I've never attacked Obama's person, only his politics.
I point out your hypocritic nature in expressing "shame" at Obama haters, while expressing the same type of hatred for Palin. So much for objective reasoning. You have that "fair & balance theory" Bighorn that does not allow for a single expression without being called a hyrocrite...Obama and Muslims can be criticized objectively but they must be done separately....Again ,I was objecting to the stupidity of posters signing off on obvious lies....Nothing else. Your opinion is not offensive and I all I did was give you my explanation...Don't get all defensive on me...lol
I comprehend, Wayward. I stand corrected. Now before I sit down: Viable candidates? Sounds like you leaning to vote Repub ticket, strongly. Have a nice weekend. I really do mean it. Peace
And MIKE: you have a nice weekend and thank you for letting me air out some brain cells re: this election. Peace to you, too.
"How does it feel to be a radical extremist of the Republican Party?" Woah, there, Ziggy. I'm NOT a republican. I'm not happy with either candidate, but there are only two viable candidates. My candidate didn't make the cut. Ron Paul is, I believe, the only person who entered the race who had ever read the Constitution. He understands that the government has definite roles to play, but should stay the hell OUT of people's lives to the greatest extent possible. He understands economics and the free markets. He was my guy. I didn't agree with everything he said, but heck, I don't agree with my wife about everything and I still like her. Mike...Social Security is a colossal failure. If citizens had been able to control the money taken by the government over the course of their working lives in the name of social "security" and invest it ourselves, can you imagine how much better off we would be? I've invested nowhere near the amount paid into the SS system, but that amount has grown -- even with the last month's disasters -- to far more than I'll ever see from SS. If the government would get out of the lives of people, we'd all be better off. I gotta go. I've got an appoointment I can't miss. Y'all have a good weekend.
You're starting to read like your young psycho friend, Mike. Just because this is YOUR blog, doesn't mean a oposing view can not be posted here. But you can delete if you find them offensive. I point out your hypocritic nature in expressing "shame" at Obama haters, while expressing the same type of hatred for Palin. So much for objective reasoning. Frankly, I sick of reading the absolute bullcrap from both sides regarding this race. Thanks for the invitation to write a blog, but quite honestly, it's more fun picking on you and yours. lol
Wayward I have said it many times our government (we the people) passed that socialist threshold several years ago, in fact FDR‘s New Deal was taken to the Supreme Court..I don’t have to tell you who won…Social Security..(check out the General Welfare Clause) that clause alone is big enough to drive a Mack truck through it....Commie & Socialist is not working anymore, a lot of people do not know what it means nor do they care..You are exaggerating the redistribution part and overlooking the redistribution to the wealthy..I will give you a new word..Corporatism, A system where the US government through ideology works hand and hand to give tax breaks to Corps, while they ship jobs overseas, have no bid contracts, get rid of unions, reduce benefits, and continue with stagnant wages and the pay ratio between worker & CEO skyrocket…That’s what we got under a Republican administration. I saw John McCain in action during the recent financial crisis, and his shoot from the hip tactics are not something we can afford…I expect Obama to get council from Chuck Hagel, Colin Powell and Joe Biden and the rest of the Foreign Relation Committee along with Joint Chief of Staff…..Cheney & Rumsfeld had experience and look what we got.
Dear Wayward, After reading your posts, I do believe, with all my heart, you would call members of the Democratic Party, socialists. How does it feel to be a radical extremist of the Republican Party. Not very bi-partisan thinking when you put it that way.
Ziggy...You mean differentiate as in making it clear that we were talking about Hillary Rodam Clinton as opposed to the other Hillary Clintons? The man is a socialist -- I would make the SAME comment about Hillary Rodham Clinton if she were still running for President. I did use that description about her during the primary season. Both advocate using the federal government to take money from people who earn it and give it to people who don't. If it was done by a single person with a revolver, it would be called robbery. When it's done by the government, it's socialism. It's wrong whether you call it redistribution of wealth, spreading the wealth or earned income tax credit. Mike...Are you saying that things are better now as far as jobs and medical care than they used to be? How about we let the free markets take care of job creating and medical care? Show me in the Constitution where that's a function of the federal government. I'm not obsessed with guns, but I will admit to a vital concern with ALL of our liberties that I think would be in jeopardy under an Obama (like that better?) administration. And, yeah, Obama (still like that better?) is a freakin' expert in forign policy.
Hey Wayward - Palin has been using the term "wealth-spreader" in regard to Obama. As for using Hussein, how many of us are referring to people's middle name unless they want to differeniate a meaning from it. ( i.e. W. Bush instead of H.W. Bush). I understood fully what Obama meant when he made his statement. I didn't take it out of context in regard to everything else he's said otherwise and dubbed it "socialism". I understand the true meaning of Socialism. I think "balance" can be a good thing in a democracy. We do not have this under Republican leadership at this time. The hard working middle class ( OMG! Proletariat?!) is on the losing end of this.
Good points Ziggy I want my home town to grow and reach it's potential...If we become a city of low information voters ,we will never get to step one. The politics of personal destruction is reaching the end (IMO) because as you say I think the people want to roll up their sleeves and fix this economy and srtart anew...I really hope Victoria gets on board.
Waywardwind You have a way of parsing words and a vivid imagination. I was not making any threats, but to imply and actually sign a letter to the editor making Muslims a bad thing and then compounding it by implying Obama is a Muslim goes beyond politics and straight into bigotry and ignorance…Why would I want to do business with people like that? The 1st Amendment is alive and well, and I made no reference to it. Every pundit in America will tell you that anyone using Barack’s middle name has a sinister intent …Perception is everything…We are not school children…I bet 99 of every 100 posters know what you are implying…Muslim, terriost, not one of us. The Earned Income Tax Credit has been with us forever under many Administrations and not one of them has tried to abolish it…Same old class warfare(used by the GOP) using the unfortunate as scapegoats that is pulled out every election year., You are falling for the GOP talking points..Next you will be quoting “Joe, the plumber”. You really should do some researching because Barack Obama has stated he has come out against the “The Fairness Doctrine” with all the serious problems we have today you are worrying about the rights of hate radio….The FCC has the right to control the content of the free airways, they control the license but the type of content on AM radio is for low information people, let them have it. You really should get the president of the NRA to run as your candidate, because not that many people are obsessed with guns…Energy, the economy, foreign policy, jobs, health care and Social Security will take center stage for quite a while.
Why do people use Obama's middle name when referring to him (Barack Hussein Obama), but those same people don't use McCain's middle name when referring to him, as well (John Sidney McCain)?
Ziggy...I used Barack Hussein Obama's middle name because IT'S HIS NAME. Does anyone get poppa oscared about Hillary Rodham Clinton or Lyndon Baines Johnson or even Franklyn Delano Roosevelt? I believe, as do you, that if we are to go to war, it should be for the right reasons against the right enemy and the right country. You haven't heard me praise Bush. The problem is that there are only two viable candidates for his job. Barack Hussein Obama wants to redistribute the wealth in this country --- not "spread the wealth" as you put it. There is a huge difference. He is a socialist. There can be no other way to describe him after he said he wants to redistribute the wealth. That is the exact same thing as "from each according to his abilities; to each according to his needs." Wealth should go to those who create it, who earn it, who go out each day, kill something and bring it home as it were. The more productive one is, the more that person is compensated. The socialist wants to give wealth to those who don't do anything. That is wrong and I will never vote for anyone who wants to do it. Mike...I went back to your original post and noticed what i had overlooked earlier. "Barack Obama said he can take the next 12 days of attacks but I think people that sent that garbage and signed their names to it, will be remembered." Gee, Mike. That sounds like a threat. Are you saying that after the election, anyone who wrote letters to editors or made posts to blog sites which were unfavorable to Barack Hussein Obama will be "remembered" and possibly subject to sanctions? If this is gonna be the policy of your candidate for President, it is scary indeed. In this country, citizens are supposed to be free to express opinions -- especially political opinions -- without fear of retaliation. Having the power and weight of the federal government come down on citizens who express constitutionally protected opinions is chilling.
I'm not surprised by the attitudes of this town (note that I do not say city). It doesn't cease to amaze me why most Republicans think as they do. A few years back, I did temp work at a place that actually had a little table set up with a pic of the SHRUB, an oil derrick & stuff (can you say "altar"). Gosh, I have often wonder how many now Democrats in this town voted for W last election, before they realized their mistake. If my memory serves me right, the first reason we went to Iraq was because the Sadaam Hussein had ties with Al Quaida and had Weapons of Mass Destruction....Gee-golly-willikers folks, can you say "LIES". Uuuuuuh.......so I guess if we pull out of Iraq, we are surrendering. Total horse hockey! I am tired of Repubs accusing Democrats of being unpatriotic because we have the cajones to say "Hey, it was a wrong to invade & we should focus on Osama Bin Laden & his cronies. Let's reorganize and find the son of a 3!%@#!" Republican thinking is that it's okay if Halliburton made truckloads of money off the Iraq war; it's okay that good men & women soldiers put their life on the line over there; it's okay we had the loss of lives on our side, the loss of lives on their side when in fact they had nothing to do with Al Quaida from the get-go; it's okay if our country spends billions of dollars monthly over there.... Oh where, oh where did all that money go.....we borrow from China...our economy is crapped out....people are losing jobs (oh yeah, as if outsourcing to the third world is all we have to worry about now) because companies are floundering. It was NO WHERE LIKE THAT 8 YEARS AGO! Sorry....but we were doomed with Bush Administration from the beginning. Whatever that was left of the American Dream is being flushed down the toilet with this kind of thinking. Yet you have to deal with the phrases like "wealth-spreader" & "surrender" which are said only to misinterpret & misrepresent. And hey! If you keep using Barak Obama's middle name"Hussein", you can sway a person to think he might be an enemy because he's not a Republican with that name (that would be okay then) How intellectual can a person get? Social justice (Oh jeez, someone out there is going to be dumb enough to think this is a "Socialist" term, I just know it.) With our country's economic situation affecting our individual personal economic situations, this puts a lot on the back burner. Social justice issues like abortion, death penalty, euthenasia will be taking a backseat somewhat in the voting booth. We are harder pressed to deal with it until we have a sound economy. (This coming from a conservative Democrat & we are out there. Hey, I believe we have the right to bear arms, too!) It is imperative that we take the bull by the horns & get our economy, our military, our livelihoods back on track or America will not be America as we've known it to be in our day & age. It is imperative that if we have to go to war, it will be for the right reasons, (how about in the right country?). Our amazingly brave military deserves that much respect from us.
Mike...First off, I'd LOVE to see a flat tax where everybody pays the same percentage with no deductions, exceptions and exemptions. And, yeah, I do understand that the present tax system -- as will even a flat tax -- takes money from everyone and parcels it out in the form of salary, payments for road building, to build ships for the Navy, to send to other countries in the form of foreign aid, etc. Barack Hussein Obama, however, wants to redistribute wealth to people who haven't done anything to earn that money. He wants to take it from your pocket and put it into mine. By the way, thank you...I'm glad you don't object. I suppose you are looking forward to the reinstatement of the "Fairness Doctrine" touted by Barack Hussein Obama. The Constitution says that Congress may not make any law respecting the freedom of speech or of the press. The fairness doctrine would require that one viewpoint on, for example the radio, to be balanced by an opposing viewpoint even if it means the owners of the stations have to cancel some programs in order to air programs which they don't wish to support. If you are a hunter or someone who believes that it is the right of citizens to protect their property, you will probably lose your rights to keep firearms in your home. A Court with two justices appointed by Barac Hussein Obama can overturn the present court's opinion that private ownership of firearms IS constitutional. Remember, the Constitution doesn't mean what it says...it means what at least five justices of the SCOTUS say it means.
I can see you did not do your homework...Our progressive tax system redistributes the wealth.,as any tax system will..You are taking from one group (rich or poor) and giving to the other...Only some sort of flat will change that. You certainly are not a Democrat and I cannot wait for the make up of the SC to change..I don't want to be dominated by conservative judges...I like a balanced court..This country is not far right. You say punish ,I say give the middle class a well deserved tax cut...You might like the Bush's tax cut for the wealth but most people don't. I have watched and read most of what Barack Obama has written & said and you are trying to interpret his meanings like I am not smart enough...On the subject of Obama I don't have to use sound bites or talking points to describe his plan..I know it pretty well, and I suspect the country does and will show their approval in 11 days.
Mike...I'm not a Republican. Neither my left nor my right knee jerks. Barack Hussein Obama wants to go far beyond the simple collection of taxes to pay for the running of the government. He wants to punish those who have achieved wealth under the system we now have and give the money to those who have not earned it. Barack Hussein Obama's concept of fairness is that NOBODY should have more than anyone else. (I wonder if he includes wealthy lawyers in that concept.) If Barack Hussein Obama is elected, I hope all nine justices of the Supreme Court have long, healthy lives. If Obama fills two or three openings on the Court, this great nation is in for massive changes and will be recognizable only by name -- that is if he and the Democrat Congress don't change the name of the nation, too.
When I was a kid growing up in Victoria I always dreaded going to see my grandparents in vidor! Urgh. I remember seeing a racist sign on the freeway there! I'm not going to repeat it but it was something about a certain race not letting the sun go down while there were still in vidor.
Bighorn: Again I empathized Victoria,I am proud of this city and when I visit other localities, I brag about the people...I was ashamed we had so many idiots. I also said these uninformed letters were signed with their city listed...The Hitler ,Muslim labels attributed to Obama. Sarah Palin is your candidate, maybe you should write a blog to complain....This is how my wife and I felt yesterday. Waywardwind No need for the constitution ,use your dictionary and look up progressive tax system..Redristribution by definaition...Look up Social Security,Medicare,Medicare, privatizing banks, etc....That sound bite Hussein, redistributing the wealth ,and your assumptions will do you well in the Republican Party.
My objection to Barack Hussein Obama has nothing to do with his race. I do object to his socialist monetary programs. His "I want to redistribute the wealth" comment is perfectly outrageous. I have studied my copy of the Constitution from Preamble to the 26th Amendment and can find nowhere in that document that redistribution of wealth by the government is allowable. I do believe that this country will be hardly recognizable after four, or shudder -- eight, years of a Barack Hussein Obama administration.
Nice overstated case, Mike. What do you make of the attacks on Sarah Palin and her family? I suppose they are "ok" with you since she is a Republican? Your bias clouds your objectivity.
I'm not originally from Victoria, but I moved here shortly after my military service. I grew up in a much smaller town and we were fairly insulated from a lot of stuff, although when a teacher was asked once why our school wasn't integrated, she didn't have an answer. I do remember the Uptown and El Rancho theaters having their "black" doors, which I thought was the stupidest thing I ever saw. The military opened my eyes even more when we were told we were all brothers and would have to depend on each other to live in wartime and most of all, everyone's blood is red no matter the color. I hate to see this country that I served revert back to 1958.
LOL..Vet,how do come up with all those one liners?..It's a gift that keeps me laughing.....Chi-town ,nah this is as cold as I like it. Aren't you from Victoria?..Did you expect all the lies? I should have listened to Redrage00..He has been saying this for quite some time.
I understand political rhetoric but those letters spell years of hate and anger which I have never seem in Victoria.....We integrated our schools without fanfare,we don't have any racial riots but I know a few of the letter writers and I am disappointed. I understand we have an older population but I did not ever think it would be a hinderance...I may be one of those with their head in the sand. It made my wife so mad, she put the other two signs back up and said she was going to get more....lol BTW Thanks for the info ,I used the stylus and it did make it much easier...My wife said she just hit the Democratic icon & pressed the red button to vote...She has got to simmer down..blood pressure pills are expensive.
Mike, it's sad; but this is just not happening in Victoria. Read the comments in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times sometime and then wonder why that city, too, can't attract anything but low paying tourist-related jobs. No matter what anybody says businesses do look at these things before they commit to moving their companies or building new ones. I may be wrong, but I think maybe Victorians kinda like their small town and don't want growth. I have no clue what Corpus' problem is!

With our country's economic situation affecting our individual personal economic situations, this puts a lot on the back burner. Social justice issues like abortion, death penalty, euthenasia will be taking a backseat somewhat in the voting booth. We are harder pressed to deal with it until we have a sound economy. (This coming from a conservative Democrat & we are out there. Hey, I believe we have the right to bear arms, too!)
It is imperative that we take the bull by the horns & get our economy, our military, our livelihoods back on track or America will not be America as we've known it to be in our day & age.
October 24, 2008 at 10:59 a.m.I suppose you are looking forward to the reinstatement of the "Fairness Doctrine" touted by Barack Hussein Obama.
October 24, 2008 at 10:25 a.m.You certainly are not a Democrat and I cannot wait for the make up of the SC to change..I don't want to be dominated by conservative judges...I like a balanced court..This country is not far right.
October 24, 2008 at 9:48 a.m.When I was a kid growing up in Victoria I always dreaded going to see my grandparents in vidor! Urgh. I remember seeing a racist sign on the freeway there! I'm not going to repeat it but it was something about a certain race not letting the sun go down while there were still in vidor.
October 24, 2008 at 9:33 a.m.Bighorn:
October 24, 2008 at 9:24 a.m.Again I empathized Victoria,I am proud of this city and when I visit other localities, I brag about the people...I was ashamed we had so many idiots.
I also said these uninformed letters were signed with their city listed...The Hitler ,Muslim labels attributed to Obama.
Sarah Palin is your candidate, maybe you should write a blog to complain....This is how my wife and I felt yesterday.
Waywardwind
No need for the constitution ,use your dictionary and look up progressive tax system..Redristribution by definaition...Look up Social Security,Medicare,Medicare, privatizing banks, etc....That sound bite Hussein, redistributing the wealth ,and your assumptions will do you well in the Republican Party.
October 24, 2008 at 8:11 a.m.Nice overstated case, Mike.
October 23, 2008 at 6:57 p.m.What do you make of the attacks on Sarah Palin and her family? I suppose they are "ok" with you since she is a Republican?
Your bias clouds your objectivity.
Those where some strange letters, I even agree with that.
October 23, 2008 at 6:32 p.m.I'm not originally from Victoria, but I moved here shortly after my military service. I grew up in a much smaller town and we were fairly insulated from a lot of stuff, although when a teacher was asked once why our school wasn't integrated, she didn't have an answer.
October 23, 2008 at 5:45 p.m.I do remember the Uptown and El Rancho theaters having their "black" doors, which I thought was the stupidest thing I ever saw.
October 23, 2008 at 5:31 p.m.Aren't you from Victoria?..Did you expect all the lies?
I should have listened to Redrage00..He has been saying this for quite some time.
Time for another trip to Chi-town, Mike?
October 23, 2008 at 5:24 p.m.I understand political rhetoric but those letters spell years of hate and anger which I have never seem in Victoria.....We integrated our schools without fanfare,we don't have any racial riots but I know a few of the letter writers and I am disappointed.
October 23, 2008 at 4:42 p.m.I understand we have an older population but I did not ever think it would be a hinderance...I may be one of those with their head in the sand.
It made my wife so mad, she put the other two signs back up and said she was going to get more....lol
BTW Thanks for the info ,I used the stylus and it did make it much easier...My wife said she just hit the Democratic icon & pressed the red button to vote...She has got to simmer down..blood pressure pills are expensive.
