Zero population growth???? In Latin America???? John, you're talking about a massive Catholic majority bunch of people. As long as the Catholic Church has the influence it has in Latin America, there will NEVER be anything close to zero population growth! As one poster on this forum warned me a while back, the hispanic population growth due to birth rate and immigration will, in 50 years, make Texas part of Mexico again. Those people breed like alley cats with little thought to the consequenses of such a birth rate, but, they're going forth and multiplying like good Catholics who are taught to do so by an old single guy who's probably never had sex much less a kid. The irresponsible population growth in Latin America is what fuels the migration to the U.S. to feed and take care of this mass of people. They'll never care about the earth or the environment. If they did, they wouldn't have so many kids.

  • President Obama is doing well in Cuba so far; what would determine if this is a good course of action is the response of the Cuban government. First and foremost, nonviolent political prisoners in Cuba must be released and reintegrated responsibly into Cuban society.

    Chavez is another matter!

What President Obama needs to do is promote and encourage the development of alternative green energy development though out Latin America, a mass education effort in science, math, and technology, and zero population growth.

These would create jobs both here and throughout Latin America, set the groundwork for future cooperative economic development, and deal with illegal immigration and regional shortages of water.
