Several right leaning letter writers and posters continue to think liberalism is a disease and conservatism is what God intended all along. If anyone thinks that the democrats, republicans, liberals, or conservatives, do not want to permanently control the federal government to promote their agenda; I still have the Guadalupe River Bridge for sale..

Today, the conservatives are still trying to make their case for minimal government interference into the marketplace even after the greed and corruption of the banks and Wall Street. They demean corporate taxes and regulations, labor unions, and liberals and ignore any wrong doing by big business. They all pull out that socialism card and try to use it like a silver bullet. That train left the station years ago, because it was the conservatives that subsidized railroad construction, intervened in labor strikes, adjusted tariffs, propped-up the gold standard and gave us Medicare Part D…..It was a republican administration that issued the first bailout money. They cannot have it both ways. The conservatives cling to the words of their beloved Ronald Reagan like "I am from the government and I am here to help" and "Government is not the solution, government is the problem" unless it is for the defense department. The number one goal is to weaken the state and federal government's power over big business by trying to get rid of the Internal Revenue Service, the Fed, bring back the gold standard and eliminating eminent domain. This is all laid out in the conservative playbook "Our Enemy, the State.” I forget who said that the motto for conservatives should be "Less government in business and more business in government."

Libertarians are the only true believers but they will never be tested because they will never be elected to high offices, I don't think any candidate would win by suggesting that we get rid of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Do you? Those three entitlements meet all the definition of Socialism because they are permanent and they are all in control of the federal government.

Grover Nordquist is a well known adviser to conservatives but they must all sign a "No new taxes" pledge for his support..California almost shutdown the government because his followers refused to vote for tax increases. Mr. Nordquist is famous for saying ""I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub."..I like to say conservatives would like to reduce government down to the size of a Radio Shack outlet, just about the size of the corporate offices that are legally evading United States income taxes by setting up tax shelters..The GOP came out in their defense by calling Obama's effort to eliminate those havens ,"a tax increase."..The power of words. If only the GOP had that much empathy for the middle class or the working poor.

CPAC will continue to meet every year to energize the pit bulls like Rush, Coulter, Hannity, O’Reilly and others to deliver it's message against the liberal state or Washington, as they like to call it. They will call for tort reform, term limits, and call any effort to let Bush's tax cuts for the rich ,sunset, and call it a tax crease, then label Health care Reform ,socialize medicine. That tactic is wearing thin since we now live in a multicultural country and their enemy appears to be 80% of the country with all the layoffs, credit card debt and unemployment benefits and the fact that health care costs are now 18% of GDP.

I saw where a right-wing letter writer blamed Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid,Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for our economic woes; he would have gotten my attention if he would have named democrats like Steny Hoyer, Ben Nelson of Nebraska ,and John Murtha because those three need to be investigated for their ties to lobbyist..I am still wondering why 12 democratic senators voted against that last banking bill that sided with the credit card companies and against consumers…Never mind I know why.
