President Barack Obama selected Sonia Sotomayor to be his nominee to replace the retiring David Souter on the Supreme Court. Unless Sotomayor has a nanny or tax problem she is a sure bet to be the first Hispanic (Puerto Rican descent) to serve on the Supreme Court. The information leaked about 7:30AM and MSNBC, CNN, and Fox went into high gear informing its viewers about the pros and cons of this soon to be controversial pick.

She graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University and earned her law degree from Yale where she was the editor of the Law Review. President George HW Bush appointed her judge of the southern district of New York and President Bill Clinton appointed her to the Second Appeals court. She will be the sixth catholic on the Supreme Court. With her background as a lawyer, prosecutor, and judge she will go into this nomination as the most qualified person in the last hundred years.

It didn’t take long for Fox to release the talking points such as, Sotomayor is the most activist, dumbest liberal judge; ever to be nominated to the Supreme Court. Sotomayor will get hit for her recent decision in" Ricci v De Stefano," a famous affirmative action case. This will be interesting since the conservative republicans have already alienated the Hispanic vote with their harsh rhetoric over illegal immigration, will they double down and lose the remaining 30%? I think she will just follow the footsteps of Roberts and Alito, sit there quietly, smile, and give the programmed answers on her way to confirmation. Anyone thinking that the nominees for the Supreme Court do not bring a bias, I still have that Guadalupe River Bridge for sale. All one has to do is look at all the 5-4 decisions that have been made.

How ironic that Karl Rove is saying that the president was too hasty, because the Bush administration took years to vet their Supreme Court pick. And they came up with Harriet Miers? I forget who said it , but it seems appropriate, when he said people like Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove,Dick Cheney and others in the republican party are still in the pre –Google era.

It's gonna be a hot two months of partisian foodfights.
