I woke up this morning to a very feisty "Good Morning, Joe” because yesterday seemed to be a “gotcha day” for politics in the news. The feed for “Good Morning Joe” was coming from Carlsbad, California, so the early morning might have had a lot to do with the tensions. The round table talked about a speechwriter's book concerning President George Bush' quotes, ACORN, Fox News, and the revelation by former President Jimmy Carter that a majority of the uneasiness comes from blatant racism.I think President Carter went too far,30% might be about right, instead of a majority.I can bet the administration did not want to talk about this distraction.

I don't think Matt Latimer should have capitalized on his eavesdropping but since it is the fashionable thing to do these days, his book "Speech-less: Tales of a White House survivor" should be an interesting read. These are some of those quotes.

Sarah Palin

The president said she was put in a position that she was not even remotely prepared for, then he asked if he had ever met her before. He went on to say "I'm trying to remember if I've ever met her before. I'm sure I must have." Then he asked, "What's she, the governor Guam?"

Barack Obama

“He didn't think much of Barack Obama,” Latimer writes. He recalls an occasion when Bush was fuming that it was a dangerous world, and quotes the president as saying, “and this cat isn't remotely qualified to handle it. This guy has no clue, I promise you.”

Joe Biden

“If bull-- was currency, Joe Biden would be a billionaire.”

John McCain

“He can get 500 people to show up in his hometown. “I could get that many people in Crawford.” He went on to say that "This is a five- spiral crash, boys."

Joe Scarborough showed some clips of a low-level sting of ACORN, showing operatives in Baltimore and Washington DC, attempting to commit fraud by encouraging a taxpayer and his espouse(sting operatives) to defraud the Internal Revenue. The ACORN operatives should be arrested and those particular offices should be shut down. Senator Shelby(R-Al) thinks there should be an immediate Senate investigation to look into this matter. This is the same Senator that said the Senate does not have time to investigate wrongdoing by the Bush administration, priorities. Every year the Internal Revenue publishes a bulletin detailing the arrest of tax practitioners that engage in the same practices the ACORN employees were caught in. National media attention was never required in the past.Fox will continue to run this story on an endless loop to satisfy their viewers. That's business as usual. Those viewers think every ALCORN employee is tied to the president.

Dee Dee Myers brought out the fact that FDR had Father Coughlin, LBJ had the John Birch Society, throw in McCarthy, and of course Bill Clinton had the vast right-wing conspiracy but the statements of a former Southern governor (despite what you think of his politics) and ex-president like Jimmy Carter, should be taken seriously. I'm sure he thought long and hard before he made that statement to NBC's Brian Williams. This set off Joe Scarborough, citing Moveon.org, as a way of saying that the viciousness is taking place on both sides. Not exactly, Moveon.org buying a one page ad in the New York Times calling General Petraeus, General Betray us” does not equate to the racist signs on display this past weekend at the 9/12 Protest rally. Granted, the media may have cherry picked the signs for sensationalism but they did have a lot to pick from.

The panel also discuss the admonishment of Joe Wilson. They all agreed with the descion and said it is time to move on.

Meanwhile Max Baucus will roll out his Health care plan that has a 35% surcharge on insurance policies that cost over $8,000 and is sure to please the insurance companies. There are so many legitimate reasons to be against specifics inside the five existing health care bills but the issues will never be discussed because the lobbyists are doing a great job of distraction and deflection.
