  • Well we started out with what Obama needs to do to get elected and now we have some Michelle Bachman talk show hate. Yeah it's the trolls that lurk the Vicad causing everyones to be unhappy. LOL!
If you spout hate you can expect some hate in return. Crying about posters that dont agree with you won't make them go away.

I want to see where we end up with Obamacare and I want someone with an open mind nominating the next justice for the supreme court. I don't think we have a person with an open mind in office at this time.

I am really anxious to see the Obama Administrations reaction to how the Supreme Court rules. This is either going to be a hilarious embarrasment that they attempt to make look like a republican failure or we are stuck with it.

Ginsburg = not long for this world.

Gregory should have stop Michelle Bachmann , tell her to let the other guest speak, if not then she will be unplugged. Thank God she isn't seeking another term as congresswoman.

I know it's extremely hard for you not to fight back.

This week on "Meet the Press" David Gregory had congresswoman Michelle Bachmann and Senator Kristen Gillibrand as his guest to discuss the woman's vote.. Michelle got to go first and she used her time to say that women are paying $2000 more for gasoline because of Obama's policies and 92% of women are unemployed for the same reason... Even the most partisan person doesn't believe that.. We should know that when president Obama came into office we were losing 750,000 jobs a month. Most of those jobs losses were women were women who had public sector jobs like teachers and nurses. The president put a ceiling on job losses in the stimulus package to the states. It was republican governors who let the teachers go.

When it came time for Kristen to speak ,Michelle shouted over her and said Senator Kristen's , statements were not true. After that, David Gregory could not shut up Michelle.... That reminded me of what goes on in this forum... What's the point of this story?

There are a lot of posters that want to agitate, rather than discuss an issue and you will be left to do all the research for them but they won't give you any credit for it;in fact they will ignore it and go on to something else and the cycle continues... If you know that and you choose to be a willing participant, then fighting back goes with the territory.

That is very hard for me not to fight back. I can't ingore the infamous 'rearview Mirror' and go away.

  • I think the first nitpick on Presidential travels occured when Bill Clinton pulled his now infamous LAX haircut pit stop with AF1 and the entire posse in tow.

I think the President and their immediate family should have a few kuxuries. I'm sure they have plenty right there in DC.

We will never stop the abuse of priveledge these high powered politicians treat themselves to. Never! They are out of control and this ship is just to damn big to turn around.

  • Do like I do, ignore them (I know that’s not in your DNA) and then after awhile they'll have to go after their cohorts; if they want to engage with anyone. That doesn't mean you have to quit posting because there are several ways to "skin a cat."..The trolls Do NOT like to be ignored.

Politics is a contact sport but we can still disagree on matters of policy, ideology or economics’ without name calling or citing unsubstantial material... I could've pulled up a blog site that stated President Bush spent a lot more money on vacations than Obama but I don't remember that ever being an issue, so I didn’t trust it and didn't post it. Besides it's never been an issue with me; it’s just a fruitless exercise in futility.

Okay, do YOU have anything that shows the trips I listed only cost about fifteen hundred dollars and the taxpayers didn't have to cough up anything?

  • Mike..."I don't begrudge any president the time off because most of the time it's a working vacation"

Nor do I, Mike. I do, however, begrudge his wife's travels with the kids on taxpayer owned airplanes. She has NO official capacity and should not be using Air Force planes for her "vacations" to wind down after she works so hard in the White House vegetable garden.

According to the GSA "Government aircraft may only be used for official purposes, including supporting specific mission requirements (e.g. fire suppression, law enforcement) and for a few, very limited exceptions to support other official travel." http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/103381

Michelle and the kids going to Africa, Spain, Aspen and the spring break trip to Mexico for the first kid hardly qualify.

"According to publicly available Defense Department figures, DOD charges other federal agencies $12,723 an hour to cover expenses for the use of a C-32." http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2011...

The Obama's will probably reimburse the treasury the amont of a commercial coach ticket which is a far cry from twelve thousand dollars an hour. Again, the taxpayers take it in the shorts.

In all seriousness, I agree with you because I've never heard of the nitpicking about presidential travels until recently.

President Obama is 10 times smarter than any poster in this forum, and will do much more to serve the country than they ever did. That's a given.

Regardless of party, the president is at work 24/7 and has more responsibilities than we can ever imagine. I don't begrudge any president the time off because most of the time it's a working vacation .Catastrophes, incidents, and other serious situations don't take a day off. That's probably the reason you can't really find out how much money the previous administrations spent on vacations. Nobody really cared.

You see how much time was wasted on this trivia? That's what they do,deflect,distract,distort....

    April 16, 2012 at 3:07 p.m.

  • Vet...I agree with you about the burden of office for the president. But, FLOTUS doesn't have an official capacity. There is no weight on her shoulders but she and the kids are acting like royalty. If you go back and read my posts, you'll see that my comments were about Michelle and her penchent for personal travel on Air Force planes. Even the last vacation to Martha's Vinyard, Michelle and the President traveled on the same day, but Michelle went ahead with the kids thereby doubling the costs of helicoptors and jets. She even had her own motorcade. She went to Hawaii in advance of her husband costing another hundred grand or so. I can't help but wonder if Michelle traveled the world with the kids like this before she moved into the White House. I also wonder if she will continue after she leaves and is no longer able to fly in "her" C-32A. I don't know, maybe getting Michelle and the kids out of town for a few days is the way the president is able to relax.

Nobody wants the first family in danger, but there are many of us who would like to see some restraint in their spending of tax dollars on personal travel. Evidently, the Obamas don't like Camp David as a getaway place to escape the pressures of the White House.

  • Let's see two wars off the government credit card, two Bush tax cut for the wealthy (not paid for),$7 TRILLION prescription drug bill (not paid for) and the list is long:

    2001–2009 George W. Bush Administration
    Executive Branch Scandels

Timothy Goeglein (R) Special Assistant to President Bush resigned when it was discovered that more than 20 of his columns had been plagarized from an Indiana newspaper. (2008)[24]
Lewis Libby (R) Chief of Staff to Vice President Dick Cheney (R), 'Scooter' was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in the Plame Affair on March 6, 2007. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and fined $250,000. The sentence was commuted by George W. Bush (R) on July 1, 2007. The felony remains on Libby's record though the jail time and fine were commuted.[25][26]
Alphonso Jackson (R) The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development resigned while under investigation by the FBI for revoking the contract of a vendor who told Jackson he did not like President George W. Bush (R) (2008)[27][28]
Karl Rove (R) Senior Adviser to President George W. Bush was investigated by the Office of Special Counsel for "improper political influence over government decision-making", as well as for his involvement in several other scandals such as Lawyergate, Bush White House e-mail controversy and Plame affair. He resigned in April 2007. (See Karl Rove in the George W. Bush administration)[29]
"Lawyergate"[30] Or the Dismissal of U.S. attorneys controversy refers to President Bush firing, without explanation, eleven Republican federal prosecutors whom he himself had appointed. It is alleged they were fired for prosecuting Republicans and not prosecuting Democrats.[31][32] When Congressional hearings were called, a number of senior Justice Department officials cited executive privilege and refused to testify under oath and instead resigned, including:

Anything we can do to help keep the Presidents grounded and working on our problems I will carry thier bags for a week on vacation.

In 2007 several of us spent a little time debunking the haters and the right wingers who wanted to post the first thing they saw on Drudge or other right wing blog sites that was critical of Obama..... As vet43 stated, the president’s travel expenses have always been criticized by the opposition. The president's use of the helicopter to take Michelle to New York for their wedding anniversary was criticized, and then the expense of the India trip the president took was widely exaggerated but the posters never came back to apologize for posting a lie.

These are the sideshows they indulge in because they don't know anything about current events. For example, the GSA wasted $800,000 taxpayer money in Las Vegas and not a peep from those who complain daily about poor people. Then there is the secret service , and some are focusing on the president's vacation cost of which full accounting has been submitted and personal costs have been or willed be paid.

Here is an article to read. Michelle Obama Spain trip

"We checked with the White House for a price breakdown of the trip, looking for a smoking gun. And honestly, there isn’t one. The bulk of the trip—the hotel stay and all meals—were paid for by the Obama’s and their close friends who joined them. “Any additional footprint,” says a White House aide, “including additional rooms needed for security support, falls under the same rules as have applied to any previous first-family travel: the costs are split appropriately, with private expenses paid for privately; government expenses are paid for by the government.”
The unmentioned point here is that the first lady doesn’t travel with that big a security detail. The Secret Service obviously won’t discuss the extent of her protective covering. But she’s nothing like her husband, or any recent past president, who has been known to have a 20-car (or more) motorcade, as well as two planes, up to three helicopters, and more than 100 staffers for even ordinary puddle-jumping trips for a speech about the economy. Overkill? Maybe. But the Secret Service would say that it’s just part of the cost of having an executive and keeping him safe.

    http://tinyurl.com/3dmvugq

Extending unemployment benefits, signing the Equal Pay Act. Repealing” Don't Ask Don't Tell” tells you more about how the president feels than money spent on vacations....This is the trivia the right wing wants to discuss.

  • Vet...I haven't found the costs for Bush's trips to his ranch in Crawford. However, Great Circle Mapper shows the distance to be about 1,300 miles. (That is from National Airport to Austin. The distance from Andrews to Crawford will be slightly different but not by much.) Call it about 2 1/2 hours. I don't know the hourly cost of the VC-25 from back then -- I'm guessing somewhere north of a hundred grand an hour. The cost of fuel was considerably less then. The security involved at the ranch was pretty much a one time thing and after it was installed, the SS just had to walk in and turn things on. I have no idea if the security features were removed from the ranch after Bush left office. I found no references to Laura traveling without George on private trips. She did, in her official capacity as first lady, travel without him, however. Again, I don't have the costs for those trips, some (most) of which were completed prior to the C-32A coming into the fleet at Andrews. I'm guessing VC-137 or perhaps G-IV for her official trips. The Bush's spent a lot of time at Camp David, which is only a short helicoptor ride from the White House and is owned by the government, of course. The bottom line is that the American taxpayer provides very generously for the president and his family. It would be nice if sometime, they would say "Thank you."

Thank you for the well researched details. Have you seen the same costs spelled out for Presidential travel for 2000 to 2008? The truth is all of the trappings of the office come with a built in cost that could be viewed as excessive but when compared to a Fortune 500 CEO's expenses to do business it may look reasonable, apples to apples.

  • Writein...Yeah, the family is fair game when they put themselves in play. Michelle has spent a ton of taxpayer money on her trips with the kids. That makes them fair game. I didn't put their kids in a solicitation photo for campaign funds -- the Obamas did that. That makes them fair game. When the taxpayers are stuck with a babysitting bill for a teenager in a foreign country and the cost of a United States Air Force plane, that makes the kid fair game. A mother/daughter trip to Spain which costs the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars makes them fair game. Michelle has decided to take it onto herself to tell the American people how they should eat, how they should feed their kids, and how they should exercise. That makes her fair game.

"Have you looked at President Obama's tax return? THAT SHOULD PROVE YOUR COMMENT AS NONSENSE!!!!"

No, J, I haven't looked at their tax return. I don't have a clue as to what you think I would learn, other than he paid a lower tax rate than did his secretary. Other than that, I don't know what his tax return would show me about his family being fair game for criticism over their profligate spending of American taxpayer's money.

Oh, and J? You remember the grammar button you have that you wrote about in one of your posts to me? You might try running this latest one of your comments through it.

  • Vet...Precise dollar amounts are very hard to come by for presidential travel, but there are some things that are known. For example, the Hawaii Christmas vacation was 17 days.

    http://www.hawaiireporter.com/reflect...

■The biggest expense is President Barack Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii via Air Force One, a cost the GAO office estimated at $1 million in the year 2000. Contacted today, the GAO confirmed there is no report the independent office affiliated with Congress has prepared since 2000 to operate Air Force One and Air Force Two. However, the U.S. Air Force provides the most current numbers of $181,757 per flight hour. Travel time for Air Force One direct from Washington D.C. to Hawaii is about 9 hours or $1,635,813 each way for a total of $3,271,622 for the round trip to Hawaii and back.
■The cost for USAF C-17 cargo aircraft that transports the Presidential limos, helicopters and other support equipment to Hawaii was not made available. However, the flight time between Andrews Air Force Base and Hawaii is at about 21.5 hours roundtrip, with estimated operating cost of $12,000 per hour. (Source: GAO report, updated by C-17 crew member). The United States Marine Corps provides a presidential helicopter, along with pilots and support crews for the test flights, which travel on another C-17 flight. That is $258,000, not including costs for the 4 to 6 member crew's per diem and hotel.
■Mrs. Obama’s early flight to Hawaii costs about $63,000 (White House Dossier), but add security and personnel for a total of about $100,000
year but rather a house on the same street further to the ocean point).
■The President and his family pay for their own beachfront rental (they are not staying in the Winter White House this year but rather a house on the same street further to the ocean point).
■The Kailua rentals are fronted by the ocean and backed by a canal. So, the taxpayers must cover the costs for housing U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Coast Guard and Navy Seals in beach front and canal front homes in Kailua. That costs about $1,200 a day ($200 allocated per bedroom per day). Since security arrives one day early, homes are rented for 18 days. That is about $21,600 per home for approximately 7 houses rented at a total cost of $151,200 for security to stay nearby.

These are the costs I could find for the Hawaiian Christmas vacation.

Then Michelle took the kids to Africa.

    http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/wash...

First lady Michelle Obama's family trip to South Africa and Botswana in June cost taxpayers well over $424,000, according to new accounting based on Air Force manifests obtained by Judicial Watch, a taxpayer watchdog group.

  • You're right. All of that money the Obamas wasted on all the trips won't close the deficit gap by a gnat's eyelash. What it DOES do, however, is illustrate the hypocracy of the first family with their do as I say not as I do philosophy. It shows that BO and Michelle don't care a fig about the people and the problems ordinary citizens have in trying to squeeze a little extra out of the family budget to take a trip to grandma's.

I don't figure Romney has much in the way first hand experience with hard times either, and don't know if he'll be any different. The thing is, I know what we've got and I'll vote to remove Obama from office. I may not be on the winning side, but I'll hold my nose and mark my ballot for Romney. I'm getting old and I look forward to a day before I die when once again I'll be able to vote FOR a candidate in whom I believe and I believe will be good for the country rather than simply be reduced to voting against the worst of two bad candidates.

    April 15, 2012 at 6:11 p.m.

  • swww,

Do you have documented dollar amounts to support your comment regading WH travel? It would be interesting to compare vacation cost in President's travel for family including travel cost and staff hours on an annual basis for the last two administrations.

    April 15, 2012 at 5:58 p.m.

  • All of that is not a drop in the bucket compared to what the Bush tax cuts cost the American public, but do I hear some of you complaining about that?

    April 15, 2012 at 4:34 p.m.

  • J, when the first family is costing the American taxpayers millions of dollars to support a lifestyle such as tho Obamas are enjoying -- frequent vacations to exotic destinations, yeah, they're fair game. Do you think Michelle Obama works so hard that she needs to get away -- and in her case, far, far away as often a she does? If she and her husband want the kids left alone, they should not put them in the spotlight. http://www.barackobama.com/obama-for-...

Do you have any idea how much the spring break trip to Mexico for the first kid cost the taxpayers? Have you seen any reports that the president has reimbursed the treasury for that trip or the trip to South Africa, or the trip to Spain, or the ski trips, or Hawaii? Michelle is fair game because she puts herself on stage telling people how to eat and exercise. Her husband tells people to not take trips to American destinations like Las Vegas (which, by the way, did great damage to the Vegas economy).

"You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer's dime." A year later, Obama warned families against gambling away college tuition: "You don't blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you're trying to save for college."

    http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/132501...

The Obamas certainly don't take their own advoce when it comes to vacations. So, yeah, J, the family is fair game as long as they put themselves into situations where the taxpayers are picking up the tab for their exotic lifestyle.

  • Mike..."The president will counter by saying that it's all about fairness and shared sacrifice because that $48 billion would be put to use in education, innovation, and infrastructure and used to lessen the burden on the poor, disabled, elderly, and students."

Shared sacrifice? You mean like sending your pre-teen daughter to Mexico for spring break with a dozen of her BFFs along with more than two dozen Secret Service babysitters? Perhaps it's sending your wife on vacation to Hawaii with the kids and then following later thereby doubling the cost of flying the family. Then again, maybe it's allowing your wife and kids to take a skiing vacation in Aspen just a little over a month after the Hawaiian Christmas vacation. Sharing sacrifice must mean something different than I understand it when Michelle took the kids, her mother and two kids of her brother's to South Africa to the tune of over a half-million dollars. Let's not forget the vacation to Spain Michelle took with 40 of her closest friends and one of the first daughters, occupying more than 50 rooms on the Costa del Sol -- not exactly the south side of Chicago. All these vacations by the president's wife must mean that being first lady is a REALLY tough job if she has to unwind so often. Wasn't it her husband who told the American business people that they shouldn't think of going to places like Las Vegas and sticking the American taxpayer witht the tab? But I guess Michelle leads a hard life and we certainly can't expect her to be held prisoner in the White House. Yep, ol' Michelle knows all about being fair and sharing sacrifices. We taxpayers sacrifice for this Marie Antoinette wannabe and she shares with family and friends. Yeah, that's fair. Thanks, Michelle.

  • Mr. J. Williams

I want 218 votes in the house and 60 votes in the senate and if it means supporting conservative democrats in conservative districts, so be it.

Gimmicks are the tools of politics; if gas prices are high in August, the president might call for a release of our oil reserves... For those that know a thing it to about oil prices, they know it's just a pacifier because it's out of the president's hands but some voters don't know that.

We don't have a monarchy, both the president and the speaker are bound by Congress; it’s not so easy to just "Do it."... Ask John Boehner.

I'm going to be the other side of that broken record; the base licks the stamps, seals and mails the envelopes to their voters, update the voter databases, and make the phone calls, while the others just provide lip service... There would be no Democratic party without California, New York, and Illinois and former Speaker Pelosi brings in a lot of money for congressional candidates.

Hopefully your job will put food on the table and fill up your the gas tank but if you wish to go to college or know someone that will be eligible for Medicare in 10 years, I would advise them to read the Ryan budget because that's the GOP of today and the Democratic party is the exact opposite.

You can’t have a Utopia unless you take the politics out of politics..:-)

    April 13, 2012 at 8:12 a.m.

  • Mike.

I fully understand the Democratic Party may not care what you or I think. What I am asking if you were King of the Democrats would you want ideology purity.

Here is my problem with the President is that he and the speaker play too much politics. Get rid of the stupid gimmicks and be like Nike, just do it!!! Grimmicks doesn’t play well outside of Washington, it doesn’t help me put food on the table, or fill up my gas tank.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but the cure for this is a mixed cabinet and the downfall of the Tea party and its liberal version.

    April 12, 2012 at 3:48 p.m.

  • That was a gimmick vote and the results were expected because Obama did not propose a serious budget. He thought he had a deal on the Grand Bargain but Boehner thought he had more clout than he did.......Obama does not want to show his hand when he knows it would be defeated by the current GOP....The GOP house does not mind passing a partisan bill that they know will be DOA in the senate....Silly games.

    April 12, 2012 at 3:15 p.m.

Bush changed from pro choice to pro life to run as Reagan's VP.

The Democratic party has a big tent and does not care what I think.

  • Mike.

My political/social views are closer to Harold Ford’s than Barack Obama. Like Ford, I am pro-gun and not that much of a fan of abortion. I do not like how House Democrats, namely big labor and ultra West coast liberals treated Ford. I guess you want ideology purity in the Democratic Party.

I used to like Harold Ford JR. but he has become a conservative democrat from New York.

He is angry at the administration because they told him not to run against Kristen Gillibrand when she was running for senator of New York because they thought that she stood a better chance of winning. Kristin Gillibrand has been at the forefront on women's issue for this administration and is a valuable ally.

Joe Biden will be used in two key swing states, Pennsylvania and Ohio to help Obama and Bill Clinton will be use the West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. Joe Biden is a valuable man as a go between the pentagon and the senate.

Obama did produce a budget but it was defeated 97-0 in the senate and worse in the house but nothing will get passed until after the election...You see Boehner & McConnell cannot make a deal because the current GOP operates as a parliamentary caucus.

It would be nice to remove more troops from the Middle East in a responsible manner but who is really in charge of Iran? Is it the Mullahs, the Revolutionary Guard or President Mahmould Amadinejad?

  • Yesterday, Mitt Romney tried to correct this problem with female voters by using fuzzy math.

At a campaign stop,he loaded the front rows with women and said that Obama's policies were responsible for 92% of the women who are currently unemployed. He did get the number of women who were not employed from the labor board stats but if you use his rationale from February to March that number would be 3000%. I always thought that it was companies who did the the hiring and firing.... I wonder how Mitt would have voted on the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009... That was passed mostly by democrats and was the first piece of legislation that President Obama signed... I guess Mitt thinks that if women get paid the same the the man for equal work, that they will be the first to be laid off....

  • 1) Dump Joe Biden. Draft Harold Ford, Jr for vice president.
    2) Produce a budget.
    3) Remove troops from the Middle East.
    4) Meet with the Iranian President in Swiss or at the UN.
    5) Take a offensive stand against Sean Hannity and Rush.
