It's no secret us 20-somethings like to drink. I mean, just give us a reason, any reason, to celebrate and we will be there with our BYOB's in hand ("Hey guys, it's Tuesday! Let's do keg stands!").

But although the partying nature of youth hasn't changed much, our choice of alcoholic beverages apparently has. It seems we are trading in our Bud Light and Jack Daniels for the more sophisticated choice of wine.

According to a Sacbee.com article, 20-somethings now make up 21 percent of regular wine-drinkers. And unlike our more mature wine consumer counterparts, we don't care about tradition or what the wine critics have to say. We just want to pop it and enjoy it, baby. According to the article:

"They have a different approach to wine, beer and spirits than other generations," says Dr. Bob Small, professor of wine and business at Cal Poly Pomona. "In this generation, there is an acceptability of wine as the alcohol of choice. And they drink for drinking's sake, for pleasure and conviviality, less in concert with foods and eating."

Other fun facts from the article:

• The gender breakdown is evenly 50-50. Previously, 60 percent of wine drinkers were women.

• Men in their 20s, hoping to impress a date, think it's a good idea to buy a bottle of wine with dinner.

• Many in this generation are drinking red wine right off the bat, typically a smooth merlot.

• Starbucks, with its bold brew, is responsible for cultivating youth interest in gourmet wines. (I know, I was as shocked as you)

So forget worrying about how to do that whole "swirl, smell, swig, spit" thingy. And feel free to put your pinkie down. Just enjoy your wine. Tomorrow will be Tuesday afterall.
