Since John Hughes passed away, many tributes have been written, filmed and put together a la montage style in honor of him.

But it wasn't until I ran across this that I truly felt the impact and what kind of person the world had just lost.

It's a blog by Alison Byrne Fields, who as a teen was Hughes' pen pal. She tells a different story of Hughes other than "he was a filmmaker famous for such movies as "The Breakfast Club." Even at the height of his fame, Hughes took the time out to write to Alison, an aspiring young writer. He gave advice, told her about his life, listened to her teen-aged problems.

How many filmmakers today do you think would do that?

It's a fitting tribute to the life of John Hughes, and not just his work.

  • Wow, thanks Aprill for sharing this with us. It's nice to see the human side to a celebrity, sounds like he was a real good guy.

  • AAAppprrriiilllll: Thanks for the post. It reminded me of my TRACKS initially scratched out in 1973 on a yellow legal pad. TRACKS Though we leave tracks in the snows of the mountains. And we leave tracks in the oceans sands. The only ones to last.. are the ones we leave.. on the hearts of our fellow man.
