For all you music-lovin' fools out there, a new band in town, Flashback, will be making their debut this Friday at Greek Bros. in El Campo.
Composed of 11 unlikely bandmates, the members of Flashback range in age from 35 to 63 and between them have decades upon decades of experience. Among their ranks are a classical musician who played with Willie Nelson, a longtime music educator and a Texas recording artist.
The band plays a wide variety of music, from oldies to contemporary music and every genre in between.
Flashback hits the stage at 9:30 p.m. There is a $10 cover charge.
If you want more information on the band, earlier this month I did a feature article on the band in our weekly M3 entertainment section.

Tom,
You seem to be a stickler for the "form before function" sentiment.
We've all endured our English 101 classes, and the purpose of writing and such is communication, i.e. Message sent = Message received. But at some point, we all request a break from the English teacher, especially if we have graduated, and paid our student loans, and dealt with the meaningless BS. To date, my life has not been made better or more gratifying because I wasted 2 hours on a Huguenots Term paper, has yours?
There are a lot of places where it's appropriate, such as resumes, but I think the purpose of such a blog was to be informative, i.e. convey information about a band. Mission accomplished. I saw it, and I'm sure than most readers here got that message as well.
The form of the writing or the misuses of pronouns does not in any way detract from the message which is that a local band is making their (or is it there? - just kidding!) debut.
We get it - if you want to judge her by form over function, my friend, you are cut from a far different cloth than I am. Me, I've spoken with her, have been interviewed by her, and respect her knowledge and enthusiasm towards her work. She can dangle all the participles she'd like, I'm a fan of her, and I think we are all better served in the media in this town because of her service.
While your points, are valid, so are mine...too many times we look at form before function, and I think we have enough hoops to jump through life as it is, without English teachers from times past reminding us that our term paper isn't following APA Specs and Guidelines.
If this were a Master's Thesis or other higher learning requirement, then fine, but this is a paper, and its commonly known that a paper is written towards the max vocabulary of a 6th grader, and this is an informal blog, and moreso deserving of a little amnesty from the grammar police,
Informally yours,

tommy, ur old shewl! U were taught 2 have etiquette and stay n d box mindset. Thats ok to. They can work together, eh?
she writes n her style and we understand it. she is modern, younger and a techno born chic.
her section on music and all is very hip!!! I think thats the word nowadays, lol. I tolerate a sentence structure like my awareness where I put my keys.
August 20, 2009 at 7:47 a.m.Aprill Brandon is certainly the most talented humor columnist that the Advocate has had in the 35 or so years I've been reading it. That's all the more reason she should use correct grammar. She should know that pronouns should agree with their anticedents. Today's blog had an example. A new band, Flashback, will make "their" debut Friday. "Flashback" is singular. "Their" is plural. Therefore, Flashback will be making its debut Friday or the members of the band Flashback will be making their debut Friday. In the Friday MP3 article, she referred to some symphony orchestra as "their" twice. Both times it should have been the singular "its". A little thing to be sure, but when one is as good as she is, why make elementary grammar errors?

VICTORIA band making a debut in EL CAMPO!
Just strikes me kinda funny.
I read the article in the paper about this band a week or so ago and looking forward to seeing them (probably not enough to go to El Campo though). I'll just keep my eye open for when they play closer. Of course you never can tell, they may be great and traveling may be worth it.
