If they're not getting their panties in a wad over Pres. Obama killing a (gasp) fly, then it's asking the band Phish to change its name to Sea Kitten (I know, it's a head scratcher for me too).
But now it seems PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is causing outrage rather than dishing it. A PETA billboard in Florida has some people crying fowl (Ha! Get it? Cause they love animals? Anyone? Hello? Is this thing on?). According to CBS, the billboard featured an image of a "stout" woman in a bikini with the words "Save The Whales, Lose the blubber. Go Vegetarian."
The ad has rubbed many people the wrong way, claiming it is rude, insensitive and targets obese people. In response, PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt told CBS, "Our goal was really to encourage people to live healthier lives and, of course, as an animal rights group, to save animals at the same time."
Oddly enough, soon after the outrage, the billboard was removed...but not for the reason you're probably thinking.
In fact, PETA claims they removed the billboard because it was simply "getting such a positive reaction."
Hmm. Does not compute.
The only question now is which is the lesser of two evils: People without a sense of humor or animal rights extremists?
(Insert Jeopardy music here)...
I got nothing.

Sorry, that is Seven Day Adventist, not Seventh Day.
September 4, 2009 at 7:04 p.m.I spent a few years in living in a Seventh-day Adventist community. They never eat any meat product, not even fish.
The town did not even sell meat to the public at convenience stores.
They did eat phony meat products, however-which I find weird.
I had bought into the belief that vegetarians were slim. I was shocked at how fat they were.

August 28, 2009 at 8:26 a.m.A friend once told me, "I'm not vegetarian because I love animals, I'm vegetarian because I hate plants!" I know he was joking, but it makes me wonder. What would happen if everyone went vegetarian? A new group would sprout up protesting to the "ethical" treatment of plants. Tree-hugging Hippies!!"
Ok Grim, now you have me on the floor doubled over laughing!!! That was pretty good.
PETA has become oxymoronic. They claim to want to treat animals ethically yet look how they treat the human animal. I got nothing either Aprill. I'm degenerating into coming up with alternate interpretations for the "P.E.T.A." acronym. I'll spare you those though. I'm still an omnivore.
August 28, 2009 at 7:19 a.m.April, I loved your article. I eat vegetarian. But there are times PETA should be beaned on the head. hmmmm no pun intended with the bean.
