When someone in the news makes the world long for the days of the Octomom scandal, it's time to take your 15 minutes of fame and go far away. FAR away.

Now, I've been trying to ignore this whole "Carrie Prejean beauty queen opposed to gay marriage but poses topless and almost gets her crown taken away until the Donald steps in with his horrible hair piece to save the day" ordeal. It's gotten ridiculous and exceedingly annoying.

But people just won't let it go.

According to the LA Times, the latest bombshell in the story is that Prejean is blaming the wind for those topless photos that caused an Internet uproar. I'm not proud to admit this, but I've seen those photos. Don't look very windy to me that day.

But I digress.

Truth be told, I don't care what Prejean thinks about gay marriage. In fact, I don't care what she thinks about anything. I don't care that she posed topless or had cosmetic surgery.

I don't care about her. Period.

Image

But I do care that she is still getting so much attention. And as such, is detracting away from, oh-I-don't-know, the actual winner of the Miss USA pageant. Can you name the winner? What she looks like or stands for?

Probably not because all we've heard about for the past few weeks are the petty problems some blonde beauty pageant contestant has and everyone and their brother in Hollywood feels the need to weigh in on it.

So Ms. Prejean, with all do respect, stop. Just stop. I fully realize you are allowed to express your opinion and I am all about free speech. But this stopped being about free speech a long time ago. In fact, it stopped being about gay marriage a long time ago. So take your perfect veneers, dyed hair, overly tanned body and well paid for chest, and find something productive to do.

Hand the limelight over to someone who deserves it.

  • Aprill.. Thats the problem, no one follows J

  • BigJ, I'm not sure I follow you. As I said in the blog, I don't care about her opinion on gay marriage or pretty much anything else. I firmly believe in free speech and her right to say it, but that doesn't mean I have to give a hoot about what she says.

But it does bother me that the media storm surrounding her just won't go away. In my opinion, she doesn't deserve the attention she is getting (which is also the media's fault to a certain extent).

I don't see how that is female envy or how that means I discredit myself. If I state a negative opinion about Angelina Jolie, does that also mean it's just female envy and not a legitimate opinion?

  • Thanks everyone for your comments. Just to address a few:
    1. While I didn't want to give this issue any more attention that it already has, I did want to publicly speak out about how ridiculous I think it has gotten, especially since I am a member of the media. Unfortunately, you can't express your disgust with a certain issue like this without bringing up the issue itself.
    2. I find it interesting some posters believe that as a woman, I apparently am not allowed to speak out against another woman without being "jealous." In my opinion, that's just a lazy way to try to discredit what I say. I've already said I think she's beautiful and it's not her looks I have an issue with.
Thanks again everyone for sharing your thoughts.

  • Now that was funny

  • Stuff like this is what makes this country so great!

Let Mr. Trump explain it to you,

"[Prejean] gave a very, very honest answer when asked a very tough answer at a recent pageant. It's the same answer that the President of the United States gave. It's the same answer that many people gave," Trump said. "If her beauty wasn't so great, nobody really would've cared."

As mammals we all know that mammaries trumps reason and Mr. Trump grasp this concept keenly, and firmlywith both hands, but still gently (the phenomenon that makes a 7 day old and a 70 year old male act the same). Were it not for Ms. Prejean's stupendous potential milk production her views on gay marriage would not merit concern.

  • we don't want to see no pics of some skinny broad from California! I don't think she showed enough of herself to cause this fuss about her!

    May 16, 2009 at 11:40 a.m.

  • Found a link at Google News that showed various images of Ms. Prejean. One of them is the pic featured in April's column. If you click on the pic it takes you to this column!! Way to go April!!
There also was a story about MS. Prejean guest-hosting on Fox and Friends on May 27th. One look at her and I knew she fit the "ideal Rupert Murdock newsperson" image, especially after going blond and the other changes!

  • HA! I bet everyone is going to wait for me to come out and say something so awful and disrespectful about this, Ms. Prejean. Sadly I don't have any smart remarks or any funny followings to say about it. Mainly because I don't care too much for her, but also because I COMPLETELY DISAGREED with how gay "celeb" Perez Hilton handled the situation. I don't know if you guys heard but shortly after the "incident" there was an interview with Perez, where he referred to Ms. Prejean as a "Stupid Bitch" which is the worst way possible to deal with the situation. I completely agree that Prejean's right is to free speech! I loved that! She may not have any real affect on gay marriage whatsoever, but she does deserve respect, just like anyone else. I say believe what you want, I'm just irritated that she's choosing to vote against my freedoms! DON'T DO IT! LOL

  • Whats the big deal shes against homosexual men/women. Shes a american she pays taxes she can be against anything she wants. April seems to be very jealous and envious she doesnt have 8% body fat and a figure to die for lol. Its ok April. Get over yourself

  • justamom,

Excellent point. Don't hold your breath waiting for an answer.
She writes, "I don't care about her. Period." Then why write about her and publish a photo of her?
Looks like the writers have a mandatory number of blogs they must pruduce. This one is just filler.

    May 15, 2009 at 9:42 p.m.

  • OK- you say she should stop talking to the media and then they wouldn't have anything to report. Ok, I consider you part of the media, did she talk to you? No, you decided to bring her back up in blog on your own. If you don't care about her why write the blog? Just curious.

    May 15, 2009 at 7:16 p.m.

  • Trulytwisted, I agree with you 100%. A person better not say anything about gays, but gays can call all of us who believe in certain values, crazy and other names and that is perfectly fine.

  • Correction:
Why hasn't that heterophobe Perez Hilton been arrested for hate speech?
We heteros are fair game, but homos aren't?
If she would have called him a tart, she would be in jail right now.

    BIGJ:
I don't care which way you swing, politically or sexually.
As far as people arrested for hate speech, dude, check the international news! It hasn't happened in the U.S., yet, but it is coming.
Don't be surprised if "Big Brother" (aka BO) finds out your IP address and comes looking for you and takes you away for "hate speech" and "hate crimes" if you disagree with him.
Uh-oh. Gotta go. Someone's knocking on my door.

  • The problem with Miss California is, that as a minister, I want to affirm her Christian commitment; however, I find that her career choices make her profession of faith highly suspect and lacking in any real credibility.

It is not unlike the hoops one has to jump through to say, "I love Jesus and lost people, but let's waterboard those evil A-Rabs who hate America."

    May 15, 2009 at 5:16 p.m.

  • Pilot..."a pair is a pair, sometimes a bigger pair is the winning hand, but more often than not, the smaller ones are prettier."

Yeah, you're right, but I never get tired of the view. Sometimes I think God must just sit back and think with pride, "I got THAT right!"

    May 15, 2009 at 4:13 p.m.

  • Just another reason for me to dislike most gay people.

    May 15, 2009 at 3:39 p.m.

  • The reason it continues to resonate with the public is because a blatantly bigoted homosexual judge made it clear that he deliberately gave her a ridiculously low score to ensure that she would not win, something that, in the absence of his score, she would clearly have done. Then, this same bigot used a scurrilously derogative term in referring to her in a venue that ensured his comments would receive national distribution. I wonder how you can wonder why this story has taken on a life of its own.

    May 15, 2009 at 3:32 p.m.

  • That's true. We do have to realize that the media has played their fair share in this Miss California drama.

    May 15, 2009 at 3:30 p.m.

  • Funny, I feel the same way about the Fatal Funnel series...

    May 15, 2009 at 3:30 p.m.

  • Very true, but it seems to me that they could find something better to sensationalize. I know sensationalism and sex (especially sex) sells, but it just seems to me if they quit listening to her, she might get the hint and go away.

    May 15, 2009 at 3:27 p.m.

  • April, I could not agree with you more. I actually halfway respected her for at least standing her ground on the issue of gay marriage, and not buckle to pressure and say something she didn't believe just for the sake of winning a stupid pageant. But this topless stuff just brought her way down. And yeah, I wish she would just go away! She didn't even win! Not to mention that I think it's inexcusable that Donald Trump allowed her to keep her crown. But Miss Nevada 2006 was stripped of her crown. And yes, I am a Paris, Nicole, Octomom hater too. Lol.

    May 15, 2009 at 3:24 p.m.

  • My guess would be two reasons: 1. There is a high demand from the public for more information on this story and 2. the media has always had a tendency to jump on the bandwagon with stories like these.

    May 15, 2009 at 3:24 p.m.

  • But why does the media keep listening?

    May 15, 2009 at 3:22 p.m.

  • Mackattack,

You make a good point, but by the same token, if she would stop talking to the media, they wouldn't have much to report on.

    May 15, 2009 at 3:20 p.m.

  • Why are we blaming her for this? Why can't we blame the media? Aren't they the ones who have taken this too far? Has Miss Prejean bought airtime with her own money in order to promote herself and this story? If she has, I haven't seen it. The media are the ones to be blamed. They are the ones who constantly bring up the "issue." Don't blame her for all of the attention; blame the media. If they would do their jobs and report actual news (to me, there's more to news than a beauty queen who posed topless), we wouldn't be here right now talking about this. (By the way, blogging about all of the attention does nothing except add fuel to the fire)

    May 15, 2009 at 3:16 p.m.

  • Bottom line ........ Aprill i agree with you.. Too much is too much..
    Cry baby cry... Enough!!!!

  • Sixgun,

No problem. I know my writing sometimes rub people the wrong way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    May 15, 2009 at 2:39 p.m.

  • Aprill..

I understand ... not to start a fight in here but sometimes I could just hate some of your articles and sometimes you make a lotta funny sense..... :)

    May 15, 2009 at 2:36 p.m.

  • April - you are not jealous of her physical appearance are you? (evil grin)

    May 15, 2009 at 2:26 p.m.

  • No it's not her body I have issues with. She has a beautiful body. I just don't think she is representing the pageant, or women in general, very well. Other than getting 2nd place in a pageant, what has she really done with her life that has warranted her all this attention. I felt the same about Octomom, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie...
I'm not jealous. Just annoyed. I think my body is just fine.

    May 15, 2009 at 2:25 p.m.

  • Aprill

Does her body tic you off... Or do you want to do it?
    Sounds like your jealous....

    May 15, 2009 at 2:20 p.m.

  • This does not go away without a VH1 reality show....no way...no how.

    May 15, 2009 at 2:17 p.m.

  • Someone emailed them to me, Wayward. Not sure where they got them.

    May 15, 2009 at 2:05 p.m.

  • "It's gotten ridiculous and exceedingly annoying. But people just won't let it go. "

I know what you mean, Aprill. It's kind of like the Victoria Advocate and the Fatal Funnel series.

    Where?!?!? I haven't seen'em.

    May 15, 2009 at 2:02 p.m.

  • Miss California made a title for herself despite taking 2nd in the pageant:
Also known now as... Miss ME, me, ME
