"Hipster" is a term for those that need labeling. Most people in these subgenres do not consider themselves this or that. Most people that conform to the norm use labels to differentiate others and use it to classify those that are not 'normal.' like themselves (aka - bored and uninspired)
It's also an outdated word recycled from the 30's through the 60's.
The earlobe stretching of the guy in the pic is as old as history itself. If one does it for a fashion statement or to get on mommy and daddys nerves, they are doing it for the wrong reasons. Most of those people are called Modern Primatives, and do it for various reasons including spiritual reasons.
Most of those that do that are associated in the music genres of Hardcore, Metal-core, Post-Hardcore, Emo/Screamo, etc.
