Say what you will about Aprill, but at least she isn't posting anonymously and is being an adult by putting her name and image behind what she says... unlike SOME posters.
Check that out mothman...it is a year old but oh well...see who the top 3 recievers of ins $$ were...not too big of a surprise. You are uninformed...this bill isn't capping premiums. It IS cutting reimbursements to Dr.s and taxing the medical field heavily....you should pay more attention & stay away from the lights.
Not to drag out this argument any further, but I have to make one last comment.
Idealist? Sure. I'll accept that label proudly. Misinformed and inexperienced? Hardly. Do a Google search for "countries with universal health care" and see what pops up. Do another search under "campaign contributions to Republicans by insurance companies". That generated over 2 million hits.
Having an opinion is one thing. Having the facts to back up that opinion is another thing altogether. (And no, just watching Fox News doesn't count.) Have a great life and don't let the black helicopters get you.
Ok, I'm a socialist, and you're a misinformed inexperienced idealist. Deal?
The cold reality is how governmental involvement is at the ROOT of out-of-control health care costs, and how further funding will lead to even LESS quality care at HIGHER costs. More of the same will only lead us in the opposite direction from that intended.
First of all, I noticed you didn't deny being a Socialist. Secondly, the fact is that almost all of the industrialized countries in the world have some form of universal or public health care system, so your argument that our entire medical establishment would "relocate to a less controling Atmospehre" (sic) is nonsense. As a matter of fact, the recently passed U.S. health care bill has the least control over the medical industry, compared to other countries.
Besides, the real point is that the legislation is not, nor was it ever meant to control the medical industry, but rather to rein in the out-of-control health insurance industry. The fact is, the health insurance lobby poured lots of money into killing this bill, not because it was bad for America, but because it was bad for their bottom line. That's the real reason congressional Republicans opposed the bill, but obviously they weren't going to admit that, so they ginned up all the fear and hysteria over non-existent "death panels" and "government take-overs."
Then again, Conservatives have never let facts get in the way of good old fearmongering.*
No, Moth, you missed the point, as much as the misquote from the author does. The point is that with further government involvement in the US health care industry would lead the FINEST HEALTH CARE IN THE WORLD TO RELOCATE to a less controling Atomspehre. And the point is that SOMEWHERE in the world SOME NATION will welcome and even adjust their system to roll out the red carpet for such a pool of talent and possible wealth.
Please refer to "out of context" before responding......
Apparently YOU missed the point that this legislation was meant to insure (no pun intended) that everyone has access to health care, not just the wealthy, like Mr. Limbaugh. And apparently, you also missed the irony in your own statement, because you are suggesting that Costa Rica's universal health care system is better than the health care bill recently passed into law, with further suggests that you are in favor of a government-run universal health care system. Therefore, the only conclusion we can draw is, that you, bighorn, are a SOCIALIST!!
With all due respect, no one said I was trying to make a difference. Obviously, this blog was written in a light hearted manner as most of my blogs are. Now if this was news story, yes, it should have been written differently. But the purpose of this blog was just merely to inform people that there is a Web site raising money for a plane ticket for Rush Limbaugh.
I suppose you missed the point that Limbaugh made that he, as a man of wealth, would have the option of seeking the finest of health care in the world, while the average American would be stuck with whatever Obama's bill would provide. He noted how unfair to the working man this would be.
Rebecca, I want to see New Zealand. It's the hobbit in me. I think that was where Lord movies were filmed, or I could be wrong. It's been a while. Just know my blonde fantasy went brunette on me afterwards.
I do apologize if there was some confusion but I thought I made it clear in the blog that Rush was responding to a question from a caller about where he'd go for healthcare if it passed and did state that Rush himself never said he'd move to Costa Rica:
"The actual quote Rush said (in response to a caller asking him where he would go for health care if it passes), according to The Huffington Post, is:
"I don't know. I'll just tell you this, if this passes and it's five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented -- I am leaving the country. I'll go to Costa Rica."
and
"(just to be fair, keep in mind that Rush has said he never publicized moving to Costa Rica)."
Son, the one with the not so developed frontal lobe, wants to move to Australia. He wants us all to move there. Of course, he needs our money for the tickets, packing, etc. Will 30 ever get here for this one, 7 more years of just laughing it off.
Thanks, bighorn, for echoing exactly what I was thinking. I was going to write something similar to what you did. With one exception: with all due respect to the other posters, Limbaugh WAS an addict. He has, as far as I know, beaten that addiction and has been clean for some time now.
And, yes, Limbaugh did indeed specify that he was going to Costa Rica for health care. Learn the facts. He never said he was moving. Is it too much to ask for accuracy in journalism, even if it is only a blog that is, incidentally, written by a staff member of the VicAd?
I can't say I blame Limbaugh one bit for wanting to go elsewhere for care to escape the damage that surely awaits this country's healthcare industry in the next few years as a direct result of this boondoggle.
Quit picking on ol' Rush. He can't help it that he is an oxymoron now. Takes years for the lightbulb to come back on. I should know-had practice living with one. Unlike drugs of choice, oxy takes hold just like most other pain killers. It's just a really hard withdrawal....long and painful. Addicts out there can more than identify.
Just about anyone can talk to a doc on line now a days, and get scripts for most stuff. My family gets their meds out of Canada. I am staying on the mainland for a while.

Heck, I would help Rush pack his bags.

April 1, 2010 at 2:13 p.m.Freethinker: "So Rush is going to move to a country where they do have universal healthcare?"
This had me cracking up. That's great. Good ole Rush. He's entertaining at least. :)
Aprill! Love your posts.

I might even join him.
March 23, 2010 at 7:37 a.m.April: Your sources are all wet. Rush stated that he would GO to Costa Rica for health care when all the doctors relocted there due to Obamacare.
I'm no fan of Limbaugh, but even less so misquotes and "out of context" uses by alledged journalists.
