The Memorial Vipers arrived back in Victoria at 2 a.m. Thursday morning after beating San Antonio Warren 5-2 in the opening game of their bi-district series.

Jordan Pacheco went the distance, striking out 10 in a 115 pitch performance. Sophomore Ryan Stuart hit a triple to start a seventh inning rally and also hit a solo home run in the ninth. Trent Wagner and Teagan Bowen also hit solo home runs in the ninth to help the Vipers jump out to the series lead.

Memorial has the advantage in the series now, but Manuel Alvarado made sure right after the game that the team remained focused. The Viper coach told his players to enjoy the moment as they gathered their equiptment from the dugout and while walking to the bus, but once they were on the bus to start thinking and focusing on the next game.

Game 2 is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Riverside Stadium. If Game 1 was any indication, we're all about to witness another great game.
