LeBron James couldn't do what the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas were able to do this weekend - Win and advance.

Hallettsville (31-8) won its regional final series 2-1 against Poth, winning Game 1 in nine innings and then winning Game 3 on Saturday 3-0. The Lady Brahmas overcame the strong pitching of Poth's Brooke Boening and the emotional week that came after the tragic death of their classmate Tyler Bludau.

With the regional final win, the Lady Brahmas are in their first state softball tournament in the school's history.

The Lady Brahmas will play at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday against Early (33-4). The winner will play either Brock (31-6) or Elysian Fields (31-7) in the state championship game at 11 a.m. on Saturday. All games are in Austin at McCombs Field.

Hallettsville goes with three pitchers, Lauren and Lindsay Steffek and Cherise Klekar. Coach Mike Mikeska has said he has full confidence in all three, especially when the Hallettsville defense plays like it did this weekend. From the catching of senior Emilie Jansky, to strong infield play anchored by shortstop Callie Herrington and surehanded defense in the outfield, Hallettsville is a complete team without a weak link.

Hallettsville is two tough wins away from a state championship, but is more than capable of taking the Class 2A title next week. The Lady Brahmas are mentally tough as they displayed this week and have shown all season how great they are on the field.

We'll know by this time next week if they're state champions, but it's already clear the Lady Brahmas have had a terrific season.
