Lovelyone12 - Nothing personal against you. Note: On personal attacks, we agree...noone should be trying to belittle the players and we shouldn't be trying to make any 1 player look better than another specially if the stats don't prove it.
am260344- "Well said"!
We apologize for the things that you all see. It is not intended for the players to see however if we could keep the parents to stay in their seats and encourage you and not to try to caoch the game, your record would be way better!
As a Memorial High School Volleyball player I do not appreciate anyone saying anything degrading about any of our players. We need your support most of all and not your opinions about our players, the starting "state qualifying" line-up, or the coaches. We try our hardest all the time even if the outcome of the game is not what we all would like. Please just support us and that is all. If you do not agree with the decisions made on the court then please keep your harsh comments to yourself even if it is your opinion.
BY WES BLOOMQUIST - WBLOOMQUIST@VICAD.COM Originally published October 14, 2009 at 12:03 a.m., updated October 14, 2009 at 12:42 a.m. Katelyn Rather knew beating Converse Wagner was a near must-win situation for the Memorial. As a three-year starter, she came into this season wanting to make the playoffs for the first time in her career and understood a loss to the Lady Thunderbirds would put the Lady Vipers in a huge hole.
After a five-set loss on Tuesday, the senior knows the team's playoff hopes took a big hit.
"We started out bad, picked it up and then went back and forth between the two the whole time," said Rather, after Wagner took a 25-23, 17-25, 25-22, 11-25, 15-10 win at the MHS senior campus gym. "To falter at the last moment was really hard to take.
"I'm disappointed in the loss but overall we played pretty well. We never gave up and fought the whole time."
Rather finished the game with 16 assists and seven digs, but couldn't stop Wagner's fifth-game performance in which it never trailed. Memorial (11-20, 3-7) has four games remaining on its schedule and must win every one in order to have a chance to make the playoffs.
"Collectively, we may have played the best we have this season but there were let-ups that we couldn't afford," Memorial head coach Jamye Pauley said. "We had to fight for every point, in every game and we didn't do that. It's disappointing because we really had to have this game and we were right there."
Brooke Smith led the Lady Vipers with 21 digs, Angela Robisheaux contributed 19 and Bianca Trevino had 16. Allie McGehee led the team with 14 kills and Tabby Zella had 20 assists for Memorial.
Memorial is back in action on Friday at San Antonio Highlands at 7:15 p.m. before returning home next Tuesday to host Corpus Christi King at 7 p.m.
As i was sitting in the stands watching the laddies play. I was amazed this was the first time i ever saw them play as a team and worked hard and they fought hard. They just need an extra push and they will be at the top. and congradualations to Keirra did really really good! and so did the others players as well They just need to tighten up the rotation and then the lady vipers is on their way to play offs! Keep up the good work & one thing i have to say is that coach pauley need to do more foot work with the girs and their approachs are well formed
Well its good to see an apology.I would like to say that the Immaturity of these coaches doesnt surprise me with the things they say and do.Its not just coach Pauley but also Newmyer the jv coach.A lesson should be taught to both about how a coach can loose the respect of a player.I do believe that a player or players have been affected by such comments from thier coaches and as our children if that child is hurt by it and needs someone to talk to why not be the parent. Instead of a teammate.so the "what said by a coach should be kept within the player and coach comment is CRAP.On to the next topic. I have stated before, is where a player should be place JV or Varsity. We all know that comments from the coach were made on not having a set spot, well i think thats crap too now.here are girls who produce while on the court and are consitant whether good or bad. Again some seniors level of play are just not there like some of the juniors and for that reason Keirra was pick by Coach Pauley from the beginning to be a varsity player, because she is GOOD. So maybe when you went to a game and didnt see kierra play it was from injury or what I think is Coach not playing the girls who produce on the Court during a game. Don't go by PRACTICE and warmup before game because a girl can look very impressive but during a game it a whole different field. So maybe thats the reason you didn't see her play but Kierra is a darn good player and deserving. But the problem is the choice of where the girls are placed and she left behind to great assets to her Varsity team Kelly and Celeste. I can say this with confidence the girls i see playing and taking memorial to state are Kiara, Tabby,Kierra,Lani ,Biannca,Angela,Jessica,Celeste,Brook, and Kaitlin These are My choice these girls should all be Starting and the others should be 3rd string subs.I have seen these girls play and they are very consistant when they play together and they all should be able to play anywhere and learn it and excel. But again My thoughts and my choice you dont have to agree but I think when you actually come out and see a game you"ll understand
Okay i was wrong for putting her out like that it wasn't my place to do so. But what im saying is that the girls have to step up are their season can be over within a blink of an eye. and as for that comment i made for "Keirra Brown" I apology is just frustrates me to see girls that have been busting their buts all season long to get to where they need to get and get no recognition for it. Im not saying she dont deserve it but its kind of akward. And runningMan i was not aware that she was starting at the begning if the season so i do apologize for that. And yes i did Play for Baylor and my spot was sercued sorry to say. Well i hope for the best for the lady vipers i will be at the game tonight!
runningman81221 - Nothing personal against you. Note: In a democracy when the majority of the people hear and repeat what was said...it was said. Can't erase those comments that were reaffirmed by the girls. Lady Vipers await the apology! On personal attacks, we agree...noone should be trying to belittle the players!
wow on the comments that have been made!! seems y'all don't really have all the pieces correct, first if you want to make negative remarks about the coach, please make sure you where there to have heard what was said!!! what is said before and after a game should stay with the coach and her players everyone else should stay out of it!! and apparently you must not know keirra brown she was a starter at the being of the season and then was hurt and has worked really hard to earn a starting position back on the team (she has earned it)!!!!. Here is the thing Ms. I played at Baylor starting Middle, no position is secure on a team you earn your spot every day at practice and game day, remember just because you have played the game it doesn't make you an expert to be a coach!!! and how would you know how to make a line-up with the memorial team have you coached these girls 5 days sometimes 6 days a week, not sure you are qualified to be giving quotes on a team, player or coach you apparently don't know!! let's not start pointing out players, we need this volleyball team to play as a team and support each other not be separated by miss information others seem to be giving out!!! GO LADY VIPERS!!
In response to Lonelyone12's remark about Keirra Brown injured player/ bench holder becoming a starter. Kierra obviously worked hard while fighting to recooperate from her injury. Friday she was the 2nd top hitter on the Viper team. Looks like she earned her spot. You don't punish a player for getting injuried. Kierra can obviously hold her place on a team injury or no injury. Watch out that girl has some potential!!! I was a coach for thirteen years and I am the daughter of a coach. I know sports. It seems to me you need to support all the Viper players. If you can't be supportive then take your time and learn how to write and spell. hookem&spikem
