So I’m back home from Dallas, where I stayed with my parents while I waited for flaky Rita to run her course. My husband and I brought along our four very angry kitties and our most treasured belongings as we trekked the long way to and from Dallas. In all, our trip was quite uneventful.

Because we took a less beaten path, we didn’t encounter any of the traffic or gas shortages that so many other people were plagued with. In Dallas, however, there were indeed long lines for gas, and many gas stations did end up running out of fuel. As for the traffic up there, well, it wasn’t any different than it usually is—packed.

I am so thankful that we had a place to go to because I’d heard that all hotels in Texas were filled up. As we drove along the 2-lane blacktop highway, I noticed that the parking lots at some very seedy motels were filled to capacity (and then some). “I’m soooo glad that’s not us,” I thought to myself as we headed toward clean, safe, cost-free shelter.

But now that I’m home, it’s time to get everything back in order and get back into the daily grind. I have no regrets about leaving, and I’d do it again if I had to. I do hope that you and yours made it through the ordeal with the utmost safety, and I look forward to our prompt return to normalcy.
