Ice-cold sodas. Hot chocolate. Ice cream. Hot vegetable stew. What do they all have in common? I used to cringe at the thought of putting them in my mouth.
Its not that I dont like these foods and drinks. Its just that my teeth dont like them. I have, over the years, developed a sensitivity to very cold and very hot foods and drinks. And I dont mean a little bit of a sensitive twingeI mean a shock-inducing jolt of pain shooting through my lower jaw.
A trip to the dentist revealed no abnormalities among any of my teeth. I have no cavities, no loose fillings. I can attribute the pain only to my perennially dysfunctional sinuses. My dentists only advice to me was to brush my teeth with Sensodyne® toothpaste.
After trying the toothpaste and finding no noticeable results, I decided to take a gamble on Orajels® Advanced Tooth Desensitizer. I use the word gamble because it costs $13.00 at Walgreen's, and $13.00 is a lot of money for a jobless person such as myself.
This stuff had better work! I mumble to myself as I leave the drug store with an empty wallet.
Well, I am pleased to announce that my $13.00 was well spent. The stuff works. Its easy to apply: Brush your teeth; rinse; apply the product to your sensitive tooth/teeth 3 times, waiting 30 to 60 seconds between each application. Just do as I do and pretend to say Deeeeeeeeee for one minute between applications.
I felt the difference almost immediately after I was finished applying the product. (You have to wait one hour before eating or drinking anything.)
Not bad. It does have a rather dentist-y, numbing taste, if that makes any sense to you. But its well worth it. One box of this product should last for up to three months, and its not messy. One caveatI am not sure if this product will work on all of ones teeth; I am using it only on two or three teeth, but its doing its job well.
Nowadays, I dont dread brushing my teeth every morning and every night. I can eat my ice cream with tears of joy, rather than tears of pain, streaming down my cheeks. I dont have to brace myself for that glass of cold water any longer. And you shouldnt, either. Try it today. Or on payday.
