In a fit of goodwill, I recently decided to give one of my aforementioned, um, "hairy" restaurants another try. I figured I could go against the odds and perhaps get a bowl of chili without barbershop clippings in it.

When I pulled into the parking lot of this restaurant, the marquee sign said, “Closed Till Spring.”

Um…

Okay. Isn’t winter, like, the best time to eat chili? Oh, and aren’t customers vital to the survival of any business? Or am I crazy?

“Closed Till Spring.”

How can someone expect any revenue at all if they’re open only when he or she feels like working?

Geez. I wish I could pick and choose my time off…And leave for several months at a time.

Well, this customer’s fed up. I shall take my money elsewhere.

What is it with the business hours at area restaurants? Many of them are closed on Mondays. Why? Also, many of them close during peak mealtimes, like 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. Why? Either be open for lunch and dinner, or don’t be open for lunch and dinner. Just don’t close in the middle of lunch and dinner.

If I ever own a business, I’ll make sure I keep my customers’ needs in mind. That way, I might actually earn a profit. It’s a crazy scheme, to be sure. But someone’s got to do it.
