Jackson County Emergency Management Coordinator Allan Friedrich said county officials are closely watching Tropical Storm Don as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico towards the Texas coast.
"We're watching it to see what's going on with it, but it's too early to make any major plans," Friedrich said.
Even if Don hits Jackson, which it is not on course to do, Friedrich said he does not foresee the need to enforce evacuation.
"This is not a major storm where roofs will be coming off houses," he said.
No business/school closings are scheduled for now.
At 1 p.m. Thursday, Don was 475 miles east southeast of Corpus Christi moving northwest at 15 mph. Maximum sustained winds remained at 45 mph.
Don should reach the Texas coast Friday night or Saturday morning.
