I imagine it's difficult to put your weight loss efforts out there for everyone to talk about. There's a certain bravery to public weight loss that deserves an extra applause, I think.

And doesn't it seem like everyone is on a diet these days. Or, about to go on a diet. Or, they're just coming off a diet. Or, they talk about dieting.

There are so many weight loss books, videos, machines, pills,frozen meals, drinks, cleanses, cookies, shakes, bars, programs, point-counting, websites out there to help us lose weight. But you very rarely hear of any of them working long-term.

Years ago, I was in the best shape of my life. I lost 35 pounds, and built visible muscle on every part of my body. It took about a year working out with a trainer to get the muscle to cut the way I wanted, but it finally paid off. Trina, my trainer, was a professional body builder (her abs were known to intimidate even the most ripped of gym rats) so she didn't let me get away with, well, anything. "Last set, best set" still rings in my ears. That meant I was about to start my last set of lifting, and it was likely going to hurt -- a lot. She was a fan of super-setting my body until I was shaking and sweating."If you're not sweating, you're not working," she'd say.

I woke up at 430 a.m. for months, met her at the gym at 5:30 a.m. three days a week, worked out another day or two by myself, ate right, went to bed early, and that was it -- I got into great shape. There was no magic pill or shake or program for me. But I'm always curious to see any of the weight loss programs out there on the market today are working for other people?
