With all the hub-bub going on about HU-Dats closing I just want to mention there is a new restaurant open on the north side of town(out on 77N almost out of town) named Lu-raq’s it is a BBQ place and is a brand new building . I tried it last week and was happy with their Pulled Pork Sandwich. They have an inside and outside area and I understand they are going to have bands etc: out there. Overall I would give it a 3 and ½ stars. They do serve beer( a must w/BBQ) and have a good selection. While I know it don’t replace Hu-Dats (different kinda of food and atmosphere ) I am always glad to see new businesses especially restaurants open in Victoria. But I am hoping Hu-Dats closing is just temporary .

Lu-Raqs is now on my "TO DO" list! Thanks Roy!
August 17, 2009 at 8:28 a.m.Over the years I have seen many great restaurants close, due to lack of sales volume, cash flow and failure to watch expenses. Heck, I even pitched my hat in the ring a few times. I wish them the best, it is hard work for the small margin of profit, when there is an profit.
August 11, 2009 at 12:15 a.m.Thanks for the info Roy. We're always looking for somewhere different to go and who doesn't like a good ole pulled pork barbecue sandwich! mmmmmmm

August 10, 2009 at 8:51 p.m.I TOTALLY AGREE--BUT-They have been here for a long time way before Texas Roadhouse,Chili's, Johnny Carino's- just to name a few. And I'm glad to see Mumphord's, Uncle Mutt's and the rest doing well--I like'em all! I go to Hungry-Thirsty's and Dairy Treet quite often, as well as Dragon Palace and La Tejanita's. All have their special atmosphere and GOOD FOOD! I wish ANY entreprenuer a prosperous venture!

August 10, 2009 at 3:53 p.m.I somewhat agree with your comment that it seems to be hard to make it if the restaurant is not a chain, but if you serve good food at a reasonable price and have good service, several locals have stood the test of time. Uncle Mutts, Hungry Thirsty's, Dairy Treet, Ramsey's, La Tejanits's, Mumphord's, Dragon Palace, too name a few.
I LOVE LU RAQS! NEXT TIME I'M HOME THAT'S THE SECOND PLACE I'M STOPPING. FIRST PLACE IS MAMA'S CAUSE I MISS HER TORTILLAS. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK JOEY!
August 10, 2009 at 2:04 p.m.Luv-n the blog Roy... Ate at LuRaq's last night and it was GREAT! Going back in a couple of weeks to hear Chase Brown- hope to see you there!
August 10, 2009 at 2 p.m.A hearty thumbs up for Lu-Raqs. I have eaten there twice and both times it was great. I remember feeling I wasn't in Victoria as I ate. Quite different from other restaurants. Great waitstaff and management is on-site and in the dining area.
August 10, 2009 at 1:08 p.m.Lu-Raqs barbeque turkey breast sandwich is great - not dry at all. They have beer, wine, and setups. They have a live band on Thursday evenings (maybe other evenings as well). You can eat inside or out, and they have an outside bar so you don't have to go inside to get your beer. Thursday evening is "bike nite" (motorcycles) and is VERY crowded, but very fun. Seems to be family-oriented; I saw people with their kids when our bike club was there. Even dancing in front of the bandstand! Overall impression: a fun place.
August 10, 2009 at 12:07 p.m.It's awfully hard for new restaurants to make it in Victoria nowadays when they're not part of a chain, where, should it falter, the lost revenue cannot be stimulated by "Mother" office. I wish lu-raqs well and will have to try to go out there sometime.
August 10, 2009 at 11:53 a.m.I enjoyed lu-raqs.
