I've been plagued with the question of what to do with race numbers and medals. Mine are spread across different boxes (and it's going to take time to find all of them), however, I have the urge to do something with them. Especially, after my most recent 5k, where I shaved a minute off my time in a month (taught me that pushing is sometimes worth it).

Right now 3 of my medals are in Dallas and 2 are in my kitchen apartment, hanging from a cabinet. Race numbers and certificates are in boxes.

I don't want them highly visible, but I do want to put them somewhere. I'm thinking my closet in a montage of some sort, but I'm not a hundred percent sure I like that idea. I want them to remind me of my success and push me out the door in the morning, but not causing a scene, when guests are over.

So I have to ask, what do you do with all your medals, race numbers or certificates?

  • My awards are mainly in the computer room and bedroom. I have one in the living room.

Is there a medal for running in -20 degrees in the dark?
My son called yesterday morning and he had just finished a 2 miler in that in just over 14 minutes. Said he was bad out of shape. Ha... Having to get use to it again after being in the sandbox.

  • First off, let me congratulate you on all your determination and hard work, jerryallison! I believe that such accolades SHOULD be prominently displayed, as each time you see them they will indeed remind you that nothing is impossible if you are diligent and passionate about reaching your goals. Besides, what a conversation piece they would be when you have guests. There is nothing wrong with a tasteful display of your accomplishments.

If, however, you desire a less ostentatious way of showcasing your accomplishments, I concur with opi that a shadowbox, perhaps in a place meaningful to you, is appropriate for your medals, and a scrapbook for certificates and numbers would be something you could add to and pass on to others later in life if you wanted to.

I have hung my certificates, degrees, and professional licenses in my library, as I am proud of the hard work it took to earn them. I believe as long as they are not displayed in solid gold frames with flashing lights, it's not in bad taste, haha!

  • I'd suggest make your own wallpaper for your room. I've always seen my bedroom as a place where I can go for solitude, so it wouldn't really cause a scene with guests and still give you motivation to get up and go in the morning.

  • Highly visible they should be. Any any state champion medal should be displayed in some sort of shadow box or frame. this is a great accomplishment
