Well, spring is here. (Or at least I hope.) My allergies have kicked in. And the mockingbirds are out singing their love song with me cringing at every note.

Me, I'm not a fan of the Texas state bird. Not one bit. I loathe them, hate them, abhor them. And for good reason, too.

These birds have on more than one occasion attacked me.

I'll just be running a long, minding my own business. Ladadee. And the next thing I know, something is grabbing my ponytail, clawing at my scalp, cawing in my ear. And what is it?

An angry mockingbird attacking me, seeing me as a predator trying to steal her/his babies, when in all actuality I'm just on a little jog around the neighborhood.

And I realize there is nothing I can do. The bird is protected by state laws (I could be put in jail for injuring one or so I've been taught to believe). So I'll watch out for nests in trees (trees in general actually), I will avoid things where nests can be hiding. What will this do for my run?

Well, significant changes might need to be made because I'm always running under, around or by trees. However, it's going to be impossible not to run by or under trees. I know this. I just hope that the attacks this year are few and far between. Then again, they always get me to run faster.
