The next few evenings will offer interesting viewing for sky watchers.
Starting Monday evening, step outside just after sunset and look to the southwest.
The two bright points of light to the lower right of the moon will be Jupiter and Mercury and Venus will appear to the upper left of the moon as the brilliant evening star.
Stardate.org reports that on New Year’s Eve the evening sky bids farewell to 2008 with another beautiful display. There will be a close pairing of Venus and a crescent moon.
Skyandtelescope.com offers more details on the evening shows and a diagram to help you locate them.

I honored to have you as a reader.
January 2, 2009 at 6:17 p.m.I don't usually respond to your blog, but I want to thank you for it. I was at our lease the nights when Jupiter, Venus, and the moon were in the same field of vision. One night they looked like a winking Santa and on another night a snowman, if you used your imagination. I always skim whenever I will be out in the wide open spaces and viewing the night skies. :)
